Certain medications, including Accutane, some antibiotics, and photosensitizing medications, may affect whether you’re a candidate for treatment. Always provide your provider with an updated medication list.

🧴 PAUSE ACTIVE SKINCARE
Retinal/retinoids, tretinoin, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, and other drying or exfoliating products may need to be discontinued before your appointment. Your provider can tell you when to stop and restart them.

💋 PRONE TO COLD SORES?

✨ SEE THOSE LITTLE DARK SPECKLES? THAT’S LUCENT IPL DOING ITS JOB! ✨

One of the most common questions I hear after a Lucent IPL treatment is:

“Why do my brown spots look DARKER?” 🤎

This reaction is called peppering, and these photos are a great example of what it can look like after treating unwanted pigmentation with IPL.

☀️ WHAT IS PEPPERING?

IPL delivers pulses of light that are absorbed by unwanted pigment in the skin. After treatment, that targeted pigment can temporarily become darker and more noticeable, creating tiny brown speckles that can resemble pepper or coffee grounds.

Think of it as:
Target → Darken → Shed → Reveal ✨

☕ WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Over the next few days, the treated pigment may continue to look darker and develop that classic “coffee ground” appearance.

Typically, over about 7–14 days, those darkened areas gradually flake and shed naturally as the skin renews itself. Timing can vary depending on the individual and the area treated.

⚠️ The most important part: DON’T PICK!
Avoid scratching, scrubbing, or trying to exfoliate the peppering away. Allow it to shed naturally.

✨ HOW TO HELP PROTECT YOUR RESULTS:
• Wear broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every day
• Reapply sunscreen when outdoors
• Avoid unnecessary sun exposure and tanning
• Keep your skin hydrated
• Follow your recommended post-IPL skincare routine
• Avoid aggressive exfoliation while the pigment is shedding
• Continue recommended IPL treatments and maintenance as appropriate

And remember—IPL can improve existing visible sun damage, but it can’t stop your skin from producing new pigment in the future. ☀️ Consistent sunscreen and good skincare are key to maintaining that clearer, more even-looking complexion.
