Roxi was my soul dog. My longest love. And there will never be enough words to explain what she means to me or how much I miss her.

For her birthday, I want to share some of the love I’ll always have for her with animals still waiting for their person.

If you’re able, please consider donating in Roxi’s memory to Fayetteville Animal Protection Society (FAPS), the no-kill shelter that brought Honey into our lives. Or give to a no-kill shelter near you—money, food, supplies, or your time.

I wish more than anything that I could spend this birthday spoiling my girl. Since I can’t, I’d love to help spoil a few others in her honor.

Happy birthday, my Roxi girl. You’ll always be my soul dog. 🤍

⚡ What Is TASES? ⚡

It sounds scary, right?

TASES uses gentle electrical stimulation to help activate specific muscles while a child actively practices a functional movement or skill. The stimulation is paired with repetition, proper alignment, and meaningful activities to support motor learning.

Depending on the child’s individual needs, TASES may be used to support:

⚡ Muscle activation and strengthening
⚡ Improved timing and coordination
⚡ More efficient movement patterns
⚡ Joint alignment and range of motion
⚡ Postural control, standing, and walking skills
⚡ Greater participation in functional activities

One of the most important parts of TASES is knowing which muscles to stimulate, when to stimulate them, and how to pair that stimulation with purposeful movement.

Karly Wehrman, PT, DPT, PCS, is certified to incorporate Task-Specific Electrical Stimulation, or TASES, into pediatric physical therapy treatment.

🌟 What Is DMI? 🌟

Karly Wehrman, PT, DPT, PCS, has completed certifications in Dynamic Movement Intervention, also known as DMI.

DMI is a therapeutic approach used by specially trained physical and occupational therapists to support children with gross-motor delays. During DMI activities, the therapist uses specific exercises, carefully placed support, and progressively challenging positions to encourage the child to produce an active movement response.

DMI may look different from traditional therapy. You may see Karly supporting a child at the trunk, hips, legs, or ankles while the child works against gravity. The goal is not to move the child through an exercise passively—it is to provide just enough support and challenge for the child to actively respond.

DMI activities may address:

💛 Head and trunk control
💛 Postural reactions and body awareness
💛 Core strength and stability
💛 Balance and coordination
💛 Transitional movements
💛 Sitting and standing skills
💛 Stepping and walking
💛 Progress toward developmental motor milestones

Karly’s training included DMI theory, assessment, therapeutic handling, head and trunk exercises, standing and walking activities, and supervised practical application.

Every child’s body, abilities, and goals are different. DMI is not appropriate for every child or used in exactly the same way with every patient. Karly selects and adapts each exercise based on the child’s individual needs, safety, tolerance, and plan of care.

We are excited to offer families another specialized approach for helping children build confidence, develop movement skills, and participate more fully in their everyday lives! 💛

💛 Let's talk about Karly Wehrman, PT, DPT, PCS! 💛

You may have noticed several letters after Karly’s name. What do they actually mean?

PT: Physical Therapist
Karly is a licensed physical therapist who evaluates and treats challenges involving movement, strength, balance, coordination, posture, mobility, and participation in everyday activities.

DPT: Doctor of Physical Therapy
Karly earned a clinical doctorate in physical therapy. This education prepared her to evaluate movement, develop individualized treatment plans, collaborate with families and medical providers, and provide evidence-based physical therapy care.

PCS: Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Pediatric Physical Therapy
This is what makes Karly’s credentials especially unique. A PCS is an advanced board certification awarded through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. It recognizes physical therapists who have demonstrated advanced knowledge, clinical experience, and expertise in pediatric physical therapy.

Becoming a PCS requires far more than simply working with children. Candidates must meet extensive clinical requirements and pass a comprehensive specialty examination focused on the evaluation and treatment of infants, children, and adolescents.

In other words, Karly is not only a physical therapist who works with children—she is a board-certified pediatric specialist.

Her advanced knowledge, joyful personality, and genuine love for helping children move and participate make her such a valuable part of Hand in Hand Therapy. We are incredibly fortunate to have her caring for our families! 💛

One year ago today, we celebrated the grand opening of Hand in Hand Therapy. At the time, Suite 9 felt like such a big step. Now we’re in Suites 9 and 10, and we’ve had the joy of welcoming Karly to the team. It’s been so special to watch this little clinic grow and to meet the families who have made it what it is. Thank you for trusting us with your kids. ❤️

Extra love to Hannah from Building Blocks Therapy Group | Pediatric Occupational Therapy, who came to the grand opening, is an amazing friend, and has been a listening ear always. I’m so excited that you're opening a clinic of your own! I’ll be cheering you on every step of the way.

Happy anniversary! ♥️🥳

Breakfast does not have to look like “breakfast food.” Chicken, meatballs, cheese, tofu, or last night’s leftovers are perfectly acceptable in the morning—especially if they are foods your child already enjoys!

Try building a simple plate with:

🍗 One protein
🍓 One fruit
🍞 One carbohydrate

Here are some protein options to explore:

Meat and fish proteins:
Chicken nuggets, grilled chicken, turkey slices, meatballs, sausage, ground beef, pulled pork, tuna, salmon, or leftover meat from dinner

Egg proteins:
Scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, fried eggs, omelets, egg bites, egg muffins, or French toast

Dairy proteins:
Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese cubes, string cheese, milk, or a fruit-and-yogurt smoothie

Nut and seed proteins:
Peanut butter, almond butter, uncrustables, cashew butter, sunflower-seed butter, or another nut or seed butter served with toast, crackers, waffles, fruit, or in a smoothie

Soy proteins:
Tofu, edamame, tempeh, soy yogurt, or soy milk

Your child does not need to eat every food on this list, or eat a large amount, for the meal to “count.” Start with familiar foods, offer new options without pressure, and remember that fed is always the first goal.
