One of the most common questions our pharmacists get asked is, “What can I do about hair loss?” The answer isn’t always one size fits all—and it takes a little patience and consistency. So, let’s talk about it!

Minoxidil is one of the most studied treatments for hair loss. Available OTC as a topical treatment—and by prescription in oral form—it increases blood flow to the scalp and keeps hair in the growth phase. Avoid if pregnant, breastfeeding or have household pets such as cats or small dogs.

Ketoconazole shampoo, such as Nizoral, is another option. While best known for treating dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis, it can also help support a healthy scalp by reducing inflammation and blocking DHT related hair fall.

Nutrition matters too! Adequate protein and essential vitamins and minerals help support healthy hair. Supplements can be useful when needed, but more expensive doesn’t necessarily mean better—there are quality options with similar key ingredients at a lower cost.
