People get tattoos for countless reasons, but possibly one of the most common that we see is to memorialize loved ones lost. Often times the first instinct is to get a name, birth date, and death date (which is totally fine of course!) but we always recommend considering something a little more special to the relationship you had to that person… did you have a special inside joke with them? Or was there something that was yours and their “thing” like fishing, road tripping, coffee dates, or a love for books? What is something that ALWAYS makes you think of them, and puts a smile on your face?

If you’ve been thinking on a memorial tattoo and just weren’t sure where to start, Liz is always happy to do some brain storming and help bring something special to life.

Liz had a cancellation, then ANOTHER cancellation for tomorrow (Aug 26), womp womp.
But that’s good news for you! If you’ve been wanting to get in, this is your sign. Flash designs/designs up for grabs get priority since design time is limited for customs.

Liz would LOVE to do an ornamental blackwork piece with some realism hellebores (so much so that she’s willing to do it at a steal of a price)! It doesn’t have to be a whole back, but something large scale to get lots of detail in the flowers and some good velvety black for the background.

Happy ✨FLASH FRIDAY✨ friends!!!

It’s been a hot minute since we posted designs, super sorry about that! But we’ve been booked & busy and trying to enjoy a little summertime too.

You all had so many fun ideas for bird tattoos after the post of Liz’s cardinal that she decided to do a fun little series (there might be more in the works)…

We’ve been showing this one off in person for a looong time… Liz’s friend came to her with a crazy idea to do a blackout over some old tribal, then white on top of that. The first picture the black is all healed, the gorilla face is freshly healed, and the gorilla skull is fresh fresh; pictures 2-4 are after a quick touch up on the most important areas of white; and the last photo is everything healed and several years settled.

While it IS a little dark still, we’re showing this because we frequently talk about cover ups requiring multiple passes to really have that “not a cover up” vibrancy, and the white directly on top of black is essentially a single pass cover with a light touch up. Another solid pass would really brighten things up and keep them looking as good and fresh as the day they were done.

Blackouts catch a lot of flack… would you ever get one? Does having a design incorporated change your thoughts on blackouts?

There are only a couple of appointments with Liz left in September! Her October books will open VERY SOON.
