It's National Community Health Worker Awareness Week! This week, we want to recognize the CHWs who play a vital role in serving the underserved population in our community.

Meet Martha, a community health worker who serves patients in Cherokee, Spartanburg and Union counties. Martha is bilingual and is able to work with patients experiencing language barriers. She loves the opportunity to connect with clients and keep their best interests in mind.

While Martha has been with AccessHealth since 2017, she has over 20 years of experience as a CHW. Her favorite part of working for AccessHealth is being able to build relationships with patients.

"I love meeting clients where they are and getting them to where they want to be," said Martha.

It's National Community Health Worker Awareness Week! This week, we want to recognize the CHWs who play a vital role in serving the underserved population in our community.

Meet Sheri, a community health worker and care navigator who works with AccessHealth in Cherokee County. While Sheri has been with AccessHealth for nine years, she has been with Spartanburg Regional as a whole for over 18 years.

She works out of Cherokee Medical Center, where she has the opportunity to serve clients in a more rural population and help meet their needs. Sheri said referrals come to her in several ways, including through ER visits and from community partners in Cherokee County.

The work that Sheri does through AccessHealth provides her with so much fulfillment. "Nothing is better than meeting with a client who comes in overwhelmed and leaves with a smile on their face by the time the appointment is over," said Sheri.

Thank you, Sheri, for the difference you make in Cherokee County!

It's National Community Health Worker Awareness Week! This week, we want to recognize the CHWs who play a vital role in serving the underserved population in our community.

Meet Natisha, a community health worker and care navigator for AccessHealth Spartanburg. Natisha splits her time between AccessHealth Spartanburg and St. Luke's Free Medical Clinic, where she enrolls clients in the program, goes to medical appointments and meets with her clients to see how she can better serve them.

Natisha understands the importance of meeting clients where they are and encouraging them to know that their needs are heard and they can make achievable goals.

"I would do this even if I didn't get paid," Natisha said. "I've found my calling."

We're so grateful for Natisha and her dedication to serving the Spartanburg community.

You come home from surgery, take a prescription to help your body recover for a few days and now you’re back on your feet.
