World Tuberculosis Day is held each March 24 to commemorate the day in 1882 when Dr. Robert K**k announced he discovered the bacteria that causes TB, Mycobacterium Tuberculosis.

This breakthrough was a major step toward battling the illness. K**k's discovery helped pave the way for diagnosis, treatment, and public health efforts to control the disease. In recognition of his work, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1905.
