Mental health does not exist in isolation. Our experiences, relationships, environments, and histories all shape how we move through the world.
In our First Face training, we discuss Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) as a way to better understand sources of trauma and their long-term impact on health and wellbeing. ACEs can include experiences like abuse, neglect, violence, loss, substance use in the home, and disruptions to safety and stability. Historical and intergenerational trauma also continue to impact individuals, families, and communities across generations.
Understanding trauma is not about defining people by painful experiences. It’s about building compassion, awareness, and spaces that support healing.
We’ve included a QR code to the ACEs questionnaire for anyone interested in learning more and reflecting on how life experiences can shape wellbeing.
Healing happens through connection, culture, community, and care. ♥️
