Where do I even begin? With our first consultation when I met this fierce woman? The months of getting to know each other? Or the moment I watched her transform from a confident yet anxious soon-to-be mama into a powerful, fearless mother? Each stage of this journey—from our introduction to watching her bring her baby earthside—was nothing short of magical and empowering.
At the end of July, I had a wonderful phone consultation with a young woman who was anxious but educated, eager to have the safest and most empowering pregnancy, labor, and delivery possible. Shortly after, I was honored when Hailey hired me to help guide her on this path. What struck me immediately was that she was already doing everything right—educating herself, advocating for her needs, and taking all the steps to ensure a healthy, healing experience. My role was simply to support what she already instinctively knew.
For months, I joined her at prenatal appointments with the wonderful Brianna at Cascadia Midwifery. Each visit, she asked all the right questions, preparing herself mentally and physically for the marathon ahead. As I got to know this incredible mother, I saw my younger self in her, which created an even deeper connection. Watching her bloom from an unsure but beautiful woman into a fierce, courageous, bright light of a mother was nothing short of extraordinary. There was heart healing to be done, and she did more than the necessary work.
When the day came for her to bring her baby earthside, it wasn’t exactly what the birth plan outlined—but she took each challenge and change with grace and intelligence. Because of her healing, her bright soul, and her fierce motherly instincts, she safely brought her child into the world. There wasn’t a dry eye in that room. The love and support from her sister, mother, and boyfriend was unmatched. The presence of her father, who had passed the year prior, also filled the room. The Deaconess staff was incredibly welcoming and accommodating to her wishes. And then there was her midwife Brianna and me—the ones who got to watch her blossom, heal, find her voice, and grow over these past months.
There is something sacred and beautiful within the relationship between a client and her birth team. This experience was nothing short of sacred and special. We are all incredibly proud of you, Hailey—especially your father. It was a pleasure to walk alongside you and support you. You deserve nothing but the best.
Congratulations, Hailey and Austen, and baby David (named after his beloved grandfather). This was truly a life-changing experience, and you’ll always hold a special place in my heart.
