As our patients and families know, our exam rooms are themed after the Pacific Northwest & Spokane. We are adding an additional procedure room which is going to be National Park themed, so we felt that in honor of National Park Week that it is a fitting announcement!

We aren't sure how to best describe the generosity of our community, staff and families. We had a back table set aside to collect donations, and just a few days in, it was overflowing with items (stacked on top of one another) for families affected by the fires plus all of the floor space around it. Today we donated it to an organization set up to directly benefit families affected by the evacuation and fires. If you have items you would still like to donate, please feel free to bring them by and we will make another trip to donate once we collect more. Thank you, Spokane.

While fires continue to burn and many are left to navigate the uncertainty of what's ahead, we would like to rally behind our community and work to collect donations. So many have already reached out to see how they can help families in-need. Please consider donating the following items. You can drop them off at our office during business hours (8am-5pm), and we will deliver them to an evacuation center/shelter.

-Diapers
-Wipes
-Formula
-Blankets (new or gently used)
-Clothing (new or gently used)
-Nonperishable foods (including snack foods that are ready-to-eat and individually-packed)
-Bottled water
-Hygiene products (such as shampoo, soap, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, etc.)
-Dog and cat food
-Anything you feel a family may need during this time.

There has been an uptick of serious injuries related to motorized scooters and motorbikes. These range from abrasions and broken bones to catastrophic outcomes resulting in death. There are also specific rules about the bike itself and what sort of qualification the rider needs -- over 16, driver's license, etc. ANY wheeled vehicle - bike, scooter, etc. - requires a helmet appropriate for that activity and at all times.

We do not want any of our patients or children in the community to suffer horrible outcomes because of these. Please take a moment to talk with your child and review any scooters or bikes that they have access to. It could mean the difference between life and death.

In our world, so many times you watch a webinar or go to a lecture that has good information, but it's hard to know how it translates into day-to-day life and especially how to bring it home to our patients and families.

Recently, the SPS Superintendent Adam Swinyard was a guest on A Seat at the Table to discuss technology/device use in children and especially with regards to within schools. This is such a great discussion, and the part we love the most is how the kids themselves want to break free of the technology and how we as a community can help do this.

Shout out to SPS for leading the way!
