“Let’s just monitor it for another 6 months.”
Those words have always bothered me… 😅
Not because I think every changing lab means something is terribly wrong.
But because I don’t understand why we have to wait for things to get bad before we start asking why they’re changing…
A woman recently came to us for a consult after watching her labs change significantly over the past 6 months
Her TPO antibodies were rising while her nutrient status was declining.
And the recommendation she’d received was essentially: wait and see.
WAIT AND SEE?!?!
What if instead of waiting, we got curious?
What changed?
What are her nutrient demands?
Is she absorbing what she’s eating?
Is she getting enough of what her body needs?
What is happening with digestion, stress, lifestyle, and overall nourishment?
The goal isn’t to panic over every lab that moves LOL
The goal is to stop treating lab work like a pass/fail test where we only care once someone crosses the “abnormal” line.
Trends matter. Patterns matter. Context matters.
And MOST OFTEN the most valuable time to intervene is before things become a full-blown problem.
That’s what I want more of in women’s healthcare:
Less “let’s wait and see how bad it gets.”
More “let’s figure out why this is happening while we still have time to do something about it.”
