What an incredible privilege it is to be a doula and be welcomed into these moments. I am not just trusted into a birth space, I’m trusted with their fears, hopes, vulnerabilities and their families and I do not take that lightly.

Postpartum is full of contradictions! That can come with guilt, but know that you are not alone in these feelings.
You can love your baby more than you knew was possible and still miss pieces of your old life. You can want help and want everyone to leave you alone, and you can feel deeply grateful for this season and still find it to be extremely hard.
Having one feeling does not cancel out the other.
If you’re postpartum, give yourself grace in this time. You are changing and becoming a whole new person; allow yourself to become the mother you are meant to be.

These last few days have been heavy.

Like so many families in our community, my own family has been affected by the wildfires. Watching our beautiful Spokane area hurting like this has been heartbreaking, and I know many of you are carrying so much right now.

To all of my Lilac Birth Co. clients: I have sent an important message through your DoulaDo portal with updates about appointments, resources, and what support will look like over the coming days. Please check your portal when you have a quiet moment. If you don’t see it, or if your situation has changed, please reach out to me.

Please know this: your well-being matters more to me than keeping a schedule. If you need to reschedule, if you need to vent, if you’re worried, or if you simply need someone in your corner, I’m here.

I’ve been thinking especially about my pregnant and postpartum families. Carrying or caring for a baby during a natural disaster is something no one should have to do. Be gentle with yourself. Rest when you can. Ask for help when you need it. There is no prize for doing this alone.

Today, I’ll be praying for every family who has evacuated, every home that is threatened, every firefighter and first responder standing between us and these fires, and for our community as a whole. I truly believe we’ll see brighter days again.

Please stay safe, check on one another, and know that you are loved.

I had a client recent who was apologizing for being scared, and I felt her pain so deeply. We too often apologize for things we cannot control. You do not need to be fearless to birth your baby.
You can feel uncertainty while still trusting in yourself, nervousness while still moving forward, and feel fear and still be powerful.
You should never apologize for feeling your feelings. Honor them. Acknowledge them, and allow them to leave.
Maybe the goal isn’t fearlessness… maybe instead, the goal is presence.

As a doula here in Spokane, I PREACH self care! If any of you have been around me, you know that this is the one spot that I tell women to never skimp on in pregnancy and in postpartum especially.

However, this is the one place in life that I seem to fall short. I’m grateful for my friends who remind me that caring for others means caring for myself first.

✨ A little dream I’ve quietly held onto is finally here. ✨

When I was 16, I wish someone had documented my birth story.

Not because it was perfect.
Not because I looked beautiful.
But because it changed me forever.

Years later, after my own redemption birth and supporting families through some of the most transformative days of their lives, I’ve learned something important:

Birth has a way of making time stand still and fly by all at once.

The look on your partner’s face.
The strength you didn’t know you had.
The hands holding yours through contractions.
The first cry.
The first touch.
The first time you hold your baby.

These moments deserve to be remembered.
