Hills I Will Die On: Midlife Edition

• You are not “low motivation.” You’re overstimulated and under‑recovered.

• Midlife isn’t a decline. It’s a recalibration.

• You don’t miss your old body. You miss your old certainty.

• You don’t need a new diet. You need a new self‑concept.

• The woman who white‑knuckled everything in her 30s cannot lead you through your 40s.

• Peace is more powerful than intensity.

• Your body changing is not betrayal. It’s evolution.

• You’re not “too sensitive.” Your nervous system is less tolerant of chaos now.

• You’re allowed to want strength more than thinness.

• Perimenopause isn’t ruining you. It’s refining you.

If you’re ready to approach this phase strategically instead of emotionally reacting to it…

There’s 7 people in my family and 4 of us are very consistent with monitoring amounts and quality of things like protein, fiber, and healthy fats.

Our Costco shopping list comprises of things like a bazillion pounds of chicken breast, thousands of pounds of ground beef, eggs, Parmesan cheese, all the greens, colored peppers, cherry tomatoes, avocados, zucchini, mushrooms, broccoli, bananas, oranges, lemons, limes, strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries.

I have a fridge in the kitchen and a fridge in the garage and they’re both full. That’s the beauty of real food tho…it’s bulky and has a short self life, so it disappears quickly.

Costco has a great European wine selection too…and I like to grab a bottle or two when they have something special. Not to consume all the time, but to enjoy with friends on the weekend or to celebrate something. I stopped drinking all wine from CA about 6 years ago- doesn’t matter if it’s organic or not- and I’ll never look back.

1️⃣ Stop Fasting Like You’re 35
In perimenopause, cortisol tolerance drops.

Long fasts + poor sleep + life stress = blood sugar instability.

Instead:

Anchor 30–40g protein at breakfast
Eat within 60–90 minutes of waking
Stop pushing 16+ hour fasts if you’re waking at 3am
Why it works:
You stabilize morning cortisol instead of amplifying it.

2️⃣ Train for Insulin Sensitivity, Not Calorie Burn
The goal isn’t sweat.
It’s glucose disposal.

Instead:

3–4 heavy lifting sessions weekly
Walk 10–15 minutes after meals
Avoid stacking HIIT on top of poor sleep
Muscle is your metabolic insurance policy in this phase.

3️⃣ Protect Progesterone by Managing Evening Cortisol
If you wake between 2–4am:
That’s often a cortisol issue, not “low progesterone.”

Try:

10-minute nervous system downshift before bed
No high-intensity workouts after 4pm
25–40g carbs at dinner (yes, carbs)
Your body won’t make s*x hormones if it feels unsafe.

4️⃣ Track Symptoms, Not Just Cycles
In perimenopause, cycles can look “normal” while ovulation weakens.

Track:

Mid-cycle cervical fluid changes
Sleep quality 3–5 days pre-period
PMS intensity month to month
Ovulation strength matters more than cycle length.

5️⃣ Stop Over-Supplementing Randomly
Magnesium + ashwagandha + DIM + berberine + progesterone cream + fasting…

That’s chaos.

Ask instead:

Is this a blood sugar issue?
A stress load issue?
An ovulation issue?
A thyroid conversion issue?
If you don’t know the pattern, supplements just layer noise.

Comment TESTING if you’re done being told you’re “fine.”

If you don’t recognize yourself anymore…
If your body feels unpredictable…
If your moods, weight, sleep, and cycles have shifted —
but your labs came back “normal”…

You are not crazy.
And you are not making this up.

“Normal” does not mean optimal.
It does not mean your hormones are balanced.
It does not mean your metabolism is functioning well.
It does not mean your symptoms aren’t real.

It means no one looked deeper.

Perimenopause is a physiological transition.
And it requires different testing, different strategy, and different support.

You cannot fix what you don’t measure.
And you cannot out‑discipline a hormone imbalance.

If you’re ready for real answers instead of reassurance…

Comment TESTING and I’ll show you what actually needs to be evaluated.
