🚗💨 I Thought I Was Just Tired…

The other day I was driving my Tesla on a 2-hour trip and started feeling unusually sleepy.

Since I carry an Aranet4 CO₂ monitor, I decided to check the air quality inside the vehicle.

The reading? Over 1,300 ppm CO₂.

The car was set to recirculate air, which means the same air was being reused over and over. Even though the cabin felt comfortable, carbon dioxide from my breathing was building up inside the vehicle.

I switched the HVAC system from recirculate to fresh air, and within a short time the CO₂ level dropped into the 500 ppm range.

The difference was noticeable. I felt more alert and the drowsiness disappeared.

Many people don’t realize that a vehicle is a small enclosed space—just like a room in your home. When fresh air isn’t being brought in, CO₂ can build up surprisingly fast, especially on longer drives.

⚠️ High CO₂ levels may contribute to:
• Drowsiness
• Brain fog
• Reduced concentration
• Slower reaction times
• Driver fatigue

✅ My recommendation:
Use recirculate mode only when needed for heavy traffic, odors, smoke, or extreme temperatures. Once conditions improve, switch back to fresh air.

It was parked just outside the garage door.

Yet within minutes, our Graywolf multi-gas monitor detected combustion-related pollutants inside the building.

Initial readings:

🔴 TVOC: 255 ppb
🔴 Carbon Monoxide: 1.2 ppm
🔴 Nitric Oxide: 5.1 ppm

After 75 minutes of ventilation:

🟢 TVOC: 109 ppb (57% reduction)
🟢 Carbon Monoxide: 0.7 ppm
⚠️ Nitric Oxide: 5.1 ppm (no change)

This is an important lesson for homeowners.
