You cannot accurately measure your social health or character solely by the opinions of people who experience you from a distance. Someone who deals with you for a few minutes may have a completely different perspective from the person who lives with you, works closely with you, or interacts with you for hours every day.

If we truly want to examine ourselves, we must be willing to hear from those who experience us intimately—not just those whose opinions make us feel good. Sometimes the people closest to us can reveal things about our character that outsiders simply aren’t close enough to see. The question is: Are we mature enough to listen?

For many years, I grew into an understanding of that, “ Any person, man or woman, who isn’t actively, constantly, and consciously striving to align their lives up with the Pleasure of The Most High, is an individual whom you can’t truly trust, nor truly depend on.”

If we’re not striving to give Allah what He deserves of us, then who else stands a chance?
