This upper second molar had some pretty significant decay on the back side of the tooth, making an already tricky area even trickier to work in.

Instead of removing additional healthy tooth structure to create a more convenient access, we followed the path of the existing cavity and worked through the decay to complete the root canal.

Then came the part that doesn’t always get enough credit: the buildup.

We consider the core buildup part of the root canal process. It can be every bit as demanding as the treatment itself, especially when you’re working in a difficult-to-isolate posterior tooth.

Under a rubber dam.
Through the microscope.
Clean margins.
Precision bonding.
As much healthy tooth structure preserved as possible.

The final result: a properly cleaned and shaped tooth, a completed bonded buildup, and a tooth ready for its crown! 🦷

The patient wanted to explore every option to save it, so we did just that! After endodontic treatment, we rebuilt the tooth with a core buildup, giving it a solid foundation for its next chapter. 😎
