Our first monthly Wellness Power Hour is in the books! 🍂 "C***r & Connect" was an opportunity to pause, connect with those around us, and reflect on the Lifestyle Medicine principle of the importance of social connection.

Each month we'll explore a different Lifestyle Medicine principle and consider how we can incorporate evidence-based practices into our own lives!

It was great playing games, chatting, drinking some c***r, and connecting with each other during the lunch hour. It finally feels like fall is in the air! 🍁 Take a second to connect with someone around you today. Sometimes a small moment of connection is enough to remind someone (and ourselves) that we are not doing this alone. And, if you get a chance, ask Dr. Holmes about his new hit single: "Lucky Child" 😂

Welcome to October!

Here is our October 2026 Local Loop (continuing with our wellness committee initiative). I hope that you have fun engaging with all the events happening around the community this next month! There are several lovely fall events (including many festivals)!

Walk with a Doc is this Saturday (10/3) at 9am at the Springfield Botanical Gardens. There is a Kayak with a Doc tomorrow evening (10/2) from 6-7:30pm at Lake Springfield. It looks like the registration is full, but there is a waitlist you can put your name on: Activity detail | Springfield -Greene County Park Board Online Recreation

Meaning in Medicine with our R2s yesterday was complete with a little pizza and some pickleball (Dr. Elder's favorite)!

We are very proud of this group of strong and compassionate physicians. They have taken on the challenge of second year with determination and grit! The second year of residency is a very unique season. There is a little more comfortability in the role and expectations are growing. The days are very full, and there is still plenty that you can't predict or control.

Yesterday we spent a little bit of time connecting with the idea of "radical acceptance" - the practice of acknowledging reality as it is, rather than spending our emotional energy wishing it were different. It doesn't mean liking, agreeing with, or giving up - rather the opposite. It helps us to recognize and name how things are while giving ourselves the opportunity to ask "Given that...what can I do next?"

In medicine (and life), where we can't control every diagnosis, outcome, or difficult day, sometimes the most helpful thing we can do is accept where we are and how things are, take a deep breath, and figure out our next step.
