Most people think hydration just means drinking more water...
But true hydration is more complex than intake alone.
It also depends on how well your body is able to absorb, distribute, and retain fluids at a cellular level.
Electrolytes like sodium, potassium, and magnesium play a major role in this process. They help regulate fluid balance, support nerve signaling, and allow water to move where it’s needed most.
When these systems are out of balance, you may still feel fatigued, foggy, depleted, or run down, even if you’re drinking plenty of water.
As we head into the summer months, hydration needs often increase due to heat, sweat, travel, and higher activity levels ☀️
This is why common hydration mistakes tend to show up more this time of year:
- focusing only on water
- ignoring electrolytes
- waiting until you feel thirsty
- not staying consistent throughout the day
Effective hydration isn’t just about how much you drink.
It’s about how well your body is able to use it.
