🎉 YOUR ADVOCACY IN ACTION 🎉

HB4154 has officially been signed into law!

This landmark legislation modernizes pharmacist licensure in Illinois by replacing the MPJE requirement with the new Illinois Pharmacist Readiness and Orientation Program (ILPRO), an education-focused approach designed to prepare pharmacists for safe, effective, and compliant practice in Illinois.

✅ Maintains the NAPLEX as the national competency examination
✅ Strengthens Illinois pharmacy law and practice readiness education
✅ Reduces unnecessary barriers to licensure
✅ Supports workforce development and patient access to care

This achievement would not have been possible without the voices of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, student pharmacists, colleges of pharmacy, residency programs, and advocates from across Illinois.

Thank you to State Representative Natalie Manley and Senator Dave Koehler for their leadership and sponsorship of HB4154, and to the many legislators who supported this important modernization effort. Thank you to Governor JB Pritzker for signing HB4154, so graduates can utilize this new process.

Together, we are building a stronger future for pharmacy and the patients we serve.

📢 Your Advocacy in Action

Today, the Illinois House adopted HR746, an important step toward addressing the Medicaid Managed Care reimbursement imbalance impacting Illinois pharmacies and the patients they serve.

HR746 urges the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services to ensure fair reimbursement for non-critical access pharmacies so patients across Illinois can continue to access the medications and pharmacy care they depend on every day.

This action reflects the continued momentum for pharmacy advocacy in Illinois and reinforces the urgent need to protect patient access, strengthen pharmacy sustainability, and hold PBMs accountable.

Thank you to the legislators, pharmacy professionals, and advocates who helped move this resolution forward. Your engagement continues to make a difference
Together, we continue to be the voice for pharmacy in Illinois.

Your Monthly Med Safety Tip from APMS:

Safety Tip: Allergy Documentation and Verification

Incomplete or outdated allergy information contributes to preventable harm.

Verify allergies at every patient encounter.
Document reaction type, not just "allergy".
Distinguish side effects from true allergies.

Does your system support meaningful clinical decision-making?

For more information, or to get your Medication Safety and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program started, visit the APMS site at www.medicationsafety.org or give APMS a call at (866)365-7472.

Memorial Day provides an opportunity to recognize those who gave their lives in service to the nation. Across Illinois, pharmacists and healthcare professionals pause to reflect on this sacrifice and the freedoms it protects. The pharmacy community honors those who served and remembers the lasting impact of their dedication.

In observance of Memorial Day, our office will be closed 5/25.

Governor JB Pritzker, Illinois needs to become the next state!

The Tennessee Pharmacists Association applauds Gov. Bill Lee for signing the FAIR Rx Act into law today — ending PBM ownership of pharmacies and restoring fairness, transparency, and patient choice across the state. A major win for patients, providers, and pharmacies.
