What You'll Do
Every person we support is different, so every day may look a little different. Depending on the individual, you may:
- Help someone learn or maintain independent living skills
- Assist with cooking, cleaning, shopping, and household routines
- Support personal care and daily living activities
- Help individuals participate in activities they enjoy
- Provide transportation and community support
- Encourage independence instead of simply doing things for someone
- Help individuals work toward their personal goals
- Provide companionship, encouragement, and emotional support
- Follow individualized support plans and complete required documentation
- Help create a safe, respectful, and positive environment
Who We're Looking For
Great DSPs come from many different backgrounds. You may already have experience in developmental disabilities, healthcare, home care, education, social services, or behavioral health—or this may be completely new to you.
We're looking for people who are:
- Dependable and responsible
- Patient and compassionate
- Comfortable working independently
- Respectful of individual choices and differences
- Able to communicate professionally
- Willing to learn
- Interested in helping people become more independent—not more dependent on staff
We'll Train You
Previous DSP experience is not required for the right candidate.
Supporting Independence provides paid training to help you learn the skills you need to succeed. We want employees who understand not only what to do, but why the work matters.
