BBQ season is here, and we love it. Just a friendly heads up that most BBQ sauces bring a combination of sugar and acid that can temporarily soften enamel, making teeth a little more vulnerable right after eating. Rinsing with water between plates and waiting about 30 minutes before brushing gives your enamel time to settle back down.

Enjoy every bite. Your teeth will thank you for the little extra care.

New on our blog:
A new study found that higher combined exposure to fluoride and lead was associated with lower bone mineral density in American children and teens.

It's a reminder that the body experiences environmental exposures together, not one at a time.

Over the years, oral bacteria have been identified in places far beyond the mouth, including the heart, arteries, joints, placenta, and digestive tract. A growing body of research continues to explore how oral health may influence systems throughout the body.
Scientists recently found the bacterium responsible for cavities living in the gut microbiome of Parkinson's patients. Once there, it produces an enzyme that can travel to the brain. The research is still in early stages, but for anyone thinking about health from a whole-body perspective, it's worth keeping on your radar.

Study shows a cavity-causing oral bacterium may colonize the gut and drive Parkinson’s disease through a microbial enzyme and its byproduct.

A 2026 study on juvenile crucian carp found that long-term fluoride exposure was associated with oxidative stress, immune dysfunction, gut microbiome disruption, and tissue damage beyond the skeleton.

Whether the same effects occur in humans is something future research still needs to explore. This was an animal study, not a human clinical trial, but it raises important questions about how chronic fluoride exposure may impact whole-body health.

Biological dentistry looks at more than just cavities. It connects oral inflammation, airway health, hidden infections, and the materials used in dental care to whole-body wellness. What happens in your mouth can influence sleep, energy, immune health, chronic inflammation, and more throughout the body.
