The ABA Squad was at the Saint Louis University Career Fair, and two of our students joined us at the table! đź’›

One of them is an SLU student, and they were the heart of our booth. Together, we chatted with so many curious students about what ABA really looks like, what career paths are out there, and what it feels like to be part of the Squad.

There is nothing better than hearing it straight from a student who has lived it.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello. We loved meeting you.

We recently hosted a Student Dinner Social for ABA Squad students. ✨

There was good food, plenty of conversation, and a chance to step away from school and work and meet others on the same path.

We also put up sticky note boards and asked everyone to finish a few sentences, like:

An amazing person I have met in the field is...
My "actual" reinforcer after a long day is...
The ABA term I use way too much outside of work is...

One answer to that last one had the whole table laughing: "nice waiting," said to a dog.

Everyone deserves a team that believes in them before the first job begins. Getting to know students early is how we build that.

BCBAs ready for a change, we'd love to meet you too. Every placement with us starts with a real, confirmed client match, so your schedule and caseload are real from day one.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, and at ABA Squad it has us thinking about the long view. 🖍️

The communication, independence, and daily living skills we build with children now are the foundation for school, community life, and, someday, work. We can't predict any child's future, and every path looks different. We do know that equipped parents and real-life skills make a lasting difference.

It's also why we care so much about the team behind the work. We're hiring BCBAs in Missouri, and we'd love to meet clinicians who want that long-term view too.

What can attention look like for an autistic child? đź“—

Attention doesn’t always mean sustained eye contact or sitting completely still. Depending on the child and the situation, signs of engagement may look different.

You might notice things such as:

📍 Turning their body towards you or an activity

📍 Briefly looking toward you, another speaker, or the materials

📍 Responding to instructions, gestures, or changes in an activity

The important part is learning how your child communicates engagement rather than expecting attention to look exactly the same for everyone.

At ABA Squad, therapy is individualized around each child’s skills, needs, and goals.

Happy first day of fall! 🍂

There’s something so cozy about the start of a new season, cooler days, changing leaves, and a little shift in the rhythm at home.

For some families, fall routines feel comforting and familiar. For others, those little changes can take some extra time to settle into.

Save these fall sensory activities to help build fine motor skills!

Fine motor skills are essential for children to learn, building the foundations that will help them write, draw, and more later on.

By practicing these three sensory activities this fall, your child will gradually strengthen their fine motor skills, building dexterity and confidence for new challenges. Plus, they’re fun!

🍂 Leaf tracing – Helps to build hand strength and control

🍂 Pumpkin seed sorting – Strengthens the pincer grasp (perfect for writing!)

🍂 Acorn and pinecone stacking – Great practice for patience and hand-eye coordination

These are just a few seasonal ideas to help your child build the foundations of fine motor skills. Save this post for your next fall afternoon at home! đź’›

How can you support a child who struggles with transitions? ✨

Many children have a difficult time when things change. Even something as simple as leaving the house or changing classrooms can prove to be a real challenge for some children. But with these four simple strategies, you can help them feel calmer and more steady. Here are a few ideas:

📍 Give your child a few minutes of heads-up time before a transition

📍 Stay consistent with transition cues, whether it’s a phrase, a song, or just a timer

📍 Give your child a bridge between activities, such as a toy or object they can bring from one activity to the next

📍 Practice transitions on calm days to help build skills for the busy ones

To the parents out there, don’t forget: Transitions get easier with time, both for your child and for you. It’s normal for kids to need a little extra practice to get used to moments of change, and that’s why consistency and patience are the name of the game.

If this post connects with your family, save it for your next transition! đź’›
