Hello, June! Summer is here, and we have a busy month ahead at Easterseals Midwest.

This month, we're bringing families together for an evening at the Missouri Botanical Garden, gathering with members of our Women's Giving Collective in St. Louis and Kansas City, and partnering with community businesses through events like FavTrip Fridays, Chicken N Pickle - Overland Park Giveback Night, and TAP THAT - A Capital Brew Festival.

Every event helps build stronger, more inclusive communities for people with disabilities and their families.

June is also Pride Month. We celebrate the many identities, experiences, and voices that make our communities stronger. Here at Easterseals, we believe everyone deserves to feel seen, valued, and included.

Easterseals Midwest is grateful for the continued support of the St. Louis Office for Developmental Disability Resources (DD Resources).

In FY27, DD Resources approved more than $7.6 million in community investments supporting almost 1,600 individuals and families across St. Louis City. These publicly funded services help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities live more independently in inclusive communities.

Partnerships like this help create opportunities, strengthen support systems, and expand access to services for the people and families we serve every day.

Nearly a month later, we’re still celebrating this incredible honor. 💙

LeAnna Tillman was recognized as ANCOR American Network of Community Options and Resources' 2026 DSP of the Year Special Category winner in Relationships during ANCOR Connect ’26 in Boston.

Every day, LeAnna helps people build confidence, connection, and community. From volunteer opportunities to social skills workshops, her work creates spaces where people feel included and valued.

Our Kansas City Employment and Community Services team kicked off National Speech-Language-Hearing Month with ASL training earlier this month.

The training was led by Micki Keck, Deaf Services Specialist II with The Whole Person. Learning new ways to communicate helps our team provide more personalized support for the people we serve.

"Thanks to Kari Chester, my fun former co-worker who is now working at Easterseals Midwest, I was asked to provide a Basic ASL Workshop for their staff during their staff development day on Friday, May 1.

Four staff members have taken my Community ASL Class in the past. There are also two CODAs (Children of Deaf Adults) working there. One of the CODAs’ sisters used to run The Whole Family Project when she worked here.

It’s all about bringing ASL to the next level, especially for nonverbal children and adults."

Need a hearing, speech, or vision screening? Join us for CHS Free Clinic Day on Saturday, May 30 in St. Louis.

We’ll offer free screenings for children and adults, plus hearing aid checks, family resources, games for kids, snacks, and more. Licensed audiologists and speech-language pathologists will provide same-day results and guidance for next steps.

Appointments are strongly encouraged since space is limited.

Our Parade of Hearts design, "Inclusion Starts with the Heart," was created by individuals and staff across our Kansas City programs. Every color, symbol, and brushstroke tells a story of belonging.

Now, that story is on display for the whole community to see in Lawrence’s South Park.
