Let’s continue with fun facts this week!
Yes. Babies are sometimes born on the toilet!

So naturally, we made our staff guess how many we’ve had over the last year.

🚽 The answer: 18!

One of the beautiful things about physiologic birth is that there isn’t one “correct” position for pushing.

Upright positions, squatting, hands-and-knees, side-lying, the birth stool….and yes, even the toilet can help create space in the pelvis and allow you to follow what your body is telling you to do.

And the toilet has a special superpower: we’ve spent our entire lives learning to relax our pelvic floor there. Sometimes that’s exactly what a laboring body needs.

From August 1, 2025- July 31, 2026 babies have been born:

Pool- 222
Bed- 120
Car- find out tomorrow!
Floor- 20
Toilet- 18
Shower- 7
Birth Stool- 4

What position did your baby make their entrance in?

Biggest baby vs. smallest baby of the year! 👶⚖️

We asked our team to guess the weights…and now for the reveal:

🤏 Smallest: 5 lbs 9 oz
🥰 Biggest: 11 lbs 0 oz

And let’s talk about that BIG baby for a second, because estimated fetal size can create a whole lot of anxiety during pregnancy.

Baby’s estimated weight is just one piece of the clinical picture. Late-pregnancy weight estimates aren’t exact, and your care team considers many factors when talking with you about the safest plan for birth.

So tell us, what did YOUR biggest baby weigh? We have a feeling there are some impressive numbers out there. 😂

Support can make all the difference in labor. ❤️

A steady hand. A reassuring voice. A reminder to breathe, rest, move, eat, drink and that you can do this.

Partners have an important role in the birth space, and preparing for labor isn’t just for the person giving birth. Learning what to expect and talking about how you want to be supported can help both of you walk into labor feeling more confident and connected.

How are you and your partner preparing for labor? And for those who have already been there, what did you do that helped you prepare the most? Share below! 👇

Behind every thriving practice is someone making sure all the pieces keep moving and we’re so lucky to have Nicole. ❤️ As the owner and a midwife, she wears many hats, caring for families while also handling so much of the behind-the-scenes business that keeps Natural Beginnings going. She is truly an invaluable part of our team and the heart behind so much of what we do! Here more from Nicole below:

“Hi! I am Nicole Winecoff, a Certified Nurse Midwife and one of the founders of Natural Beginnings Birth & Wellness Center. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from UNC Greensboro in 1997 and graduated from East Carolina University’s Nurse Midwifery program in 2011. I was honored to be inducted into the ECU College of Nursing Hall of Fame this year which is a true honor.
I am passionate about providing compassionate, personalized care where patients feel heard, respected, and supported. It is a privilege to care for women and families through some of life’s most meaningful moments. You may see me around the office and behind the scenes or on call to come help when a baby boom happens!
Outside of work, I am a wife, mother, and proud Nana to my grand-pups. I enjoy traveling, spending time with my family/friends and making memories with the people I love.”

💜 Nicole has been part of so many beautiful birth stories over the years. If she helped bring your baby into the world, we’d love to know! Drop your baby’s birthday in the comments and let’s see just how many Nicole babies are out there! 👇✨

💛 Happy World Breastfeeding Week! 💛

Breastfeeding is natural, but that doesn’t always mean it’s easy. Every feeding journey is unique, and sometimes a little extra support can make all the difference.

At Natural Beginnings, we’re proud to have two International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) on our team who are here to help families navigate everything from latch concerns and milk supply questions to pain, pumping, and feeding confidence.

If you deliver your baby with us, you’ll meet with one of our IBCLCs at your 24–48 hour postpartum visit to help ensure you and your baby are off to the best possible start.

And here’s something many families don’t realize, you do not have to have your baby at Natural Beginnings to schedule a lactation visit with us. If you’re struggling with breastfeeding or simply want reassurance that things are going well, we’re here for you.

You don’t have to figure it out alone. Sometimes one appointment can make all the difference. Please call our office to schedule with Nanette and Lori!

Happy World Breastfeeding Week to all the amazing parents nourishing their babies in whatever way works best for their families. 🤍
If you could give one piece of advice or one word of encouragement to a new breastfeeding mom, what would it be? Share it in the comments below, you never know who might need to hear it today. 🤍
