Did you know… the average wait for adult waiver selection in Illinois is about 42–43 months?
If you’ve ever considered enrolling in Community Day Services (CDS), it’s important to start planning early.

Illinois is currently selecting adults who have been in the "Seeking Services" category for 42–43 months, which is roughly 3.5 years. Moving from "Planning" to "Seeking Services" is a key step in making sure your loved one is eligible for future waiver funding.

Rock River Valley Self Help Enterprises wishes to inform our Self Help family and the greater Sterling community of a fire that occurred on Friday, August 7th at our Recycling Center located at 2300 West LeFevre Road.

At approximately 1:00 p.m., a fire was reported in an outdoor cardboard collection area. Thanks to the rapid and coordinated response of multiple fire departments—including Sterling, Rock Falls, Dixon, Prophetstown, Morrison, Erie, Milledgeville, and Clinton—the fire was contained and extinguished. We are grateful to confirm that none of our employees or individuals receiving services were injured. One Sterling firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion at CGH Medical Center and has since made a full recovery.

The incident was confined to the front section of the recycling building and did not involve the compactor, contrary to some early reports.

At this time, the timeline for reopening the Recycling Center remains undetermined. We will continue to work closely with local officials and safety personnel to assess the damage and determine next steps. Updates will be shared with the community as more information becomes available.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all responding fire departments for their professionalism, teamwork, and dedication to community safety.
