Every 40 seconds, someone in the United States has a stroke. Recognizing the signs early and getting emergency care immediately can save a life and improve recovery outcomes.
During American Stroke Month, Skamania County Community Health encourages everyone to Learn the signs. Share the message. Help save lives by knowing when to act FAST:
Face drooping – Does one side of the face droop or feel numb? Ask the person to smile
Arm weakness – Is one arm weak or numb? Ask them to raise both arms.
Speech difficulty – Is speech slurred, hard to understand, or absent?
Time to call 911 – Stroke is a medical emergency. Immediate treatment is critical.

Many strokes are preventable through healthy lifestyle choices and regular medical care. Protect your brain health by staying active, eating nutritious foods, managing chronic conditions, and keeping up with routine checkups.

Measles cases continue to increase in Washington this year, including three recent cases with no known source of exposure. We are urging people to watch for symptoms, stay home and contact their health care provider if they feel sick, and make sure they’re up to date on their measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine.
