An organization can operate from a resilience foundation rather than a stress foundation, and the difference shows up on the balance sheet.

Organizations can find themselves stuck in systems of high stress, whether they are corporate, not for profit, or small businesses.

That is partly a cultural thing, where we feel we just have to keep going and going and going.

It is that stress hormone thinking, where bigger, faster, stronger, higher is going to get us to the goal.

But that is an old system of thinking.

In a high stress organization you probably see staff members burning out, you see staff churn, you see turnover where money now has to go into retraining, and more sick time being taken.

A resilience foundation invites all sorts of supportive modalities to become part of the day to day practice.

That could be micro-practices. It could be different support systems within different teams that are regularly practiced together.

It could be ensuring there is real resilience training, and because different modalities appeal to different people, bringing several in as a training afternoon or a retreat day.

There are all sorts of ways that policy, practice and protocol can be shifted out of stress operations into resilience operations, and that goes for staff and for leadership and management alike.

If you lead one of those teams, the practices are worth knowing from the inside first, which is exactly what three days at Clear the Path: Resources for the Sacred Self offer, Kripalu, September 11th through 13th: https://kripalu.org/experiences/clear-path-resources-sacred-self

I have only just become recently aware of this viral cortisol obsession.

And it is interesting, because to me it seems to be very connected with marketing products.

When in fact cortisol is an essential part of our endocrine system. It is an essential part of our autonomic system. It is an essential hormone.

So the entire premise of tracking it down and hacking it lower has something backwards.

Our job is really to notice when cortisol is present, and to have the skills or the micro-practices to ride that wave of whatever is happening.

Which raises the obvious question of when you are supposed to learn those skills.

Not in the moment it hits, which is when almost everyone goes looking.

Knowing how to ride the wave is like a surfer, and no surfer learns in heavy water.

And then there is the half of this that nearly everyone leaves out entirely, because something stressful happens more often in our lives than we would like, and afterward we want some reset time, some time for integration and healing.

Rather than treating cortisol as something to medicate, or as some kind of condition or disorder, I would rather we think of it as one of the gifts of the body.

The swipe through has the full sequence: why the hacks miss, when the practice actually has to happen, and the part after the wave that most people skip.

And the practising itself happens over three days at Clear the Path: Resources for the Sacred Self, Kripalu, September 11th through 13th: https://kripalu.org/experiences/clear-path-resources-sacred-self

Some things you cannot find alone.

At our recent three-day retreat at Yogaville, with my daughter Morgan co-facilitating, we had a lovely group and a very engaged one.

We practiced together, mostly movement in consciousness type practices.

Lots of meditation. Lots of Yoga Nidra.

And then really wonderful practices that were done in dyad, with deep exploring alongside a partner and then sharing in group.

That combination is deliberate.

You go inward on your own, and then you speak it to one person, and then the group holds it.

By the end, people really discovered what their obstacles are, and found tools to remove them.

That is the part I cannot replicate in a post or a video, and I am not going to pretend otherwise.

Ganesha is our sacred guide in this work precisely because Ganesha is the symbol of wisdom and strength, and also connection and community.

The obstacle-clearing and the community are not two separate things.

Which is the honest reason I keep pointing toward the room itself. We gather again at Clear the Path: Resources for the Sacred Self, Kripalu, September 11th through 13th, capped at 25: https://kripalu.org/experiences/clear-path-resources-sacred-self

A lot of these practices we can actually do as micro-practices, and when we do them as micro-practices they have an accumulative effect.

People are very busy in their lives for all sorts of reasons: work, family, caregiving, all of it.

People are already in a lot of service.

So when there is a request to bring service to the self, to rest in being and rest in one's true nature and calm the system down, people feel they do not have time.

But the practice does not require the mat.

The first step is to connect with breath, and that calms the system down.

Then, as we deepen into that practice, we can begin to notice thoughts, or notice what emotion is present, or what feeling in the body is present.

Rather than judge it or repress it or project it onto others, we can witness it.

And we can mobilize curiosity. Why is that there now? Why has that come up now?

Whatever is arising in any of our five subtle bodies is a messenger delivering an important message for us.

That is one practice. Across three days at Clear the Path: Resources for the Sacred Self we build the whole set of them, at Kripalu, September 11th through 13th: https://kripalu.org/experiences/clear-path-resources-sacred-self

There are really two types of suffering in the world.

There is the suffering we cannot avoid. That is life cycling around the people that we love and that we are attached to, and our attachments themselves.

That kind does not get solved. It gets carried.

And then there is avoidable suffering, which is those patterns that we repeat.

We come back to ourselves and we ask the question, why am I repeating this again?

Didn't I learn this lesson last time? How many times do I have to learn this lesson? This doesn't help me, this hurts me.

That question is not a sign you have failed at something. It is the doorway.

Because that is basically the choice point.

Does it help me gain clarity, awareness and aligned action, or does it hurt me, or hurt others?

Once you can answer that honestly, the pattern is no longer invisible, and what is no longer invisible can be cleared.

With obstacles that cause avoidable suffering, when we bring them into the light of consciousness and the fire of discrimination, they burn away. They become ash. And the path becomes clear.

Once they are cleared through that light of consciousness, they are gone.

Not quieter. Gone.

This matters more than it might sound, because avoidable suffering is a massive energy leak.

When we are in that level of suffering we are really in a very deep stress mode, and when we are stressed we are leaking energy.

We are a battery. And we do need to be recharged.

So let us end that process of leaking energy through stress, and learn how to bring that energy into really deep and pure alignment, so it can go to your creativity, to your processes of connection and inspiration and wisdom, and move you forward on your sacred journey.

You have to practice when the waves are not big.

Practice during nice calm time. Practice your micro-skills. Practice your longer skills.

Then when the wave comes, the skill is already there.

Three days of building those skills, Kripalu, September 11th through 13th: https://kripalu.org/experiences/clear-path-resources-sacred-self

There is no shame in this one, and I want to say that before anything else.

It is just the way we have been raised, and the way our culture organizes itself and organizes its discharge of energy.

And now we have iPhones. Now we have scrolling. Now we have social media.

So the thing we reach for has become far more available than it used to be, and far more efficient at pulling us in.

Here is what it actually does.

Doom scrolling, whatever we want to call it, brings us even more tightly into an ego tunnel.

The tunnel is what happens when we are living as though we are our thoughts, our memories and our images. It has a very contained system of meaning, and inside it there is nowhere to move.

That is why you can scroll for forty minutes and stand up feeling more wired than when you sat down. Nothing was released. The walls just came in closer.

And the cost of never getting out is not only a wasted evening.

When we do not rest in deep restorative rest we can end up getting ill, because too much stress hormone over time and our physical bodies will become ill.

We want to avoid that, and we can. We have the medicine, and we have the resources within our own practices.

Learning to actually use them is what three days together are for, at Clear the Path: Resources for the Sacred Self, Kripalu, September 11th through 13th: https://kripalu.org/experiences/clear-path-resources-sacred-self

08/28/2026

Clear the Path: Resources for the Sacred Self comes to Kripalu Center for Health and Wellness in Lenox, Massachusetts, September 11th through 13th.

We just had an extraordinary event at Yogaville with my daughter Morgan co-facilitating.

We had a lovely group, very engaged, gathered for three days around this same investigation.

We practiced together, mostly movement in consciousness type practices, lots of meditation, lots of Yoga Nidra, and wonderful practices done in dyad, with deep exploring alongside a partner and then sharing in group.

People really found clarity around their obstacles, and tools to remove those obstacles.

At Kripalu we work through five modules, each one delivering illuminating knowledge and then guiding us into many different types of micro-practices.

1️⃣ How to end the world self, sacred self division on your sacred journey

2️⃣ Listening to the five subtle bodies as messengers

3️⃣ Witnessing thoughts, memories and images rather than believing we are them

4️⃣ Where did my neuroception take me, the resource that comes before perception

5️⃣ LOFT, line of flight transformation, our green zone action plan

We close on that final session together, sifting through everything we have learned and building a plan for how you keep those practices going in the day, week and month ahead.

This is the whole thing practiced, not explained, across three days: https://kripalu.org/experiences/clear-path-resources-sacred-self
