Right now, so many students are waiting for someone to say yes to sponsoring them. In recent months, we have also lost several sponsors, leaving even more students in need of support. International Week of Deaf People! 🤟

This year’s theme, “Declaring Deaf People’s Human Rights,” reminds us that every Deaf child deserves the opportunity to learn, communicate, grow and dream about their future. At B.L. Tezza School for the Deaf, education is about so much more than what happens in the classroom. It means giving Deaf children access to language, a supportive community, three meals each day, uniforms, medical care and, most importantly, a place where they are understood and valued.

But we still have so many students in need of sponsors. For $38 a month, you can help provide a Deaf child with the education, care and opportunities every child deserves. For Frank, being able to see means being able to communicate.

Frank is a Grade 8 student at B.L. Tezza School for the Deaf. He is profoundly deaf and relies on his vision to use sign language, learn and navigate the world around him.

Right now, his vision is at risk.

Frank has a cataract in his left eye and tissue growth affecting both eyes. He is also battling an eye infection and needs medical treatment and surgery to protect his sight. For a child who cannot hear, losing his vision would mean losing so much more. Please help us protect Frank’s sight and get him the care he urgently needs. Every donation makes a difference.

We Built the Kitchen — Now It’s Time to Fill It!

One of the biggest things our sponsorship program supports at B.L. Tezza School for the Deaf is something incredibly simple, but incredibly important: food. With more than 80 children receiving three meals every day, our staff is constantly cooking. Feeding that many children is a huge undertaking—but those meals mean our students can learn, grow, and focus on being kids without worrying about where their next meal will come from. Two years ago, YOU helped us build a physical kitchen. Now, we’re ready for the next step: filling it with the equipment our staff needs. Our first goal is to purchase two large cooking ovens that will be installed inside the kitchen with proper chimneys. These ovens will allow our staff to cook much larger quantities of food at once, safely inside the building and protected from the rain, wind, and other elements.

Our goal: $2,500 by the end of the term.

After their August break, we are so excited to welcome students back to B.L. Tezza School for the Deaf for the final term of the 2026–27 school year! There is nothing quite like seeing these classrooms filled again with smiling faces, learning, laughter, friendship, and so much joy. Two years ago, we completed the physical structure of a new kitchen at B.L. Tezza School for the Deaf. Today, we’re ready to take the next step: turning that building into a functioning kitchen. We are hoping to raise $3,000 to purchase and install two large cooking stoves and a sink, similar to the ones pictured in this post. The stoves will be installed inside the kitchen building with chimneys to safely carry the smoke outside. Right now, the staff cooks multiple meals throughout the day using small cooking pots. Feeding an entire school this way takes an incredible amount of time and work. These larger cooking stoves will allow the staff to prepare much more food at once, making a huge difference in their daily workload and in the daily lives of the children at B.L. Tezza. This kitchen has been waiting for two years. We would love to finally see it completed and filled with meals being prepared for the children we love so much. Our team arrived safely back in the United States yesterday, with hearts that are full. Over the past two weeks, we experienced so many incredible moments, built meaningful relationships, and witnessed both the beauty and the heartbreak of life in Kenya.

As one of our team members said, “It was so much more beautiful and so much more heartbreaking than I expected.” That perfectly captures what it’s like to visit Kenya and truly get to know our students. Their joy, resilience, and love leave a lasting impact on everyone who meets them.

We had amazing soccer, volleyball, and netball games today in conjunction with Hope For Kenya, Joy School International! Students from schools with disabilities and those without rarely get to interact with each other. Students from B.L. Tezza School for the Deaf got to teach students from Joy School some sign language and spend the day learning more about each other. Athletics is such an incredible way to teach each school that they're not so different from each other.
