The Death on the Sixth Floor
Maria was a hardworking hospital employee who worked on the sixth floor in the critical care unit. Every day, she arrived at work at exactly 8:00 a.m. and began her routine.
The patients in this unit were extremely fragile and depended on life-support equipment to survive. Some were connected to incubators and oxygen machines that helped them breathe and stay alive.
One morning, Maria noticed an empty electrical outlet was hard to find. Without thinking much about it, she unplugged a cord from the wall and connected her phone charger instead. She had no idea that the cord she unplugged was supplying power to a life-support machine.
A short time later, a patient died.
No one suspected anything. The death was considered a tragic medical event.
The next day, Maria did the same thing.
Again, a patient died.
Weeks passed, and the strange pattern continued. Every death occurred in the same room, on the same floor, and always shortly after 8:00 a.m.
Hospital staff became frightened. Rumors spread through the hallways. Some people believed the room was cursed. Others thought there was a mysterious killer inside the hospital.
After the fifth unexplained death, hospital administrators launched a full investigation.
Determined to uncover the truth, they installed a hidden security camera in the room where the deaths kept occurring.
The following morning, Maria arrived at 8:00 a.m. as usual. She walked into the room, unplugged the same cord, and connected her phone charger.
Everything was captured on camera.
Investigators quickly reviewed the footage and finally discovered the shocking truth.
Maria was not a murderer.
She had never intended to harm anyone.
She simply did not realize that the outlet she was using powered critical medical equipment. Each time she unplugged the cord, a patient’s life-support system stopped functioning.
The mystery that had terrified the hospital for months was finally solved.
It was not an evil spirit.
It was not a serial killer.
It was a tragic mistake caused by a lack of awareness and attention to life-saving equipment.
The case became a powerful lesson throughout the hospital: in healthcare, even a small action can have life-or-death consequences.
