If you’ve been trying to improve your IBD symptoms through nutrition for a few weeks and aren’t noticing dramatic changes, that’s actually pretty normal.
One of the hardest parts about nutrition and IBD is that progress does not happen overnight 🫠
Many of us have spent YEARS dealing with symptoms, inflammation, restrictive eating, nutrient deficiencies, stress around food, and periods where eating enough was difficult. When the body has been struggling for a long time, it needs time to rebuild 💞
Nutrition can absolutely support your health, but it is not a quick fix.
If you’ve been working on:
✨ Eating more consistently
✨ Expanding your food variety
✨ Increasing fibre gradually
✨ Correcting nutrient deficiencies
✨ Meeting your energy and protein needs
..it may take weeks or even months before you notice meaningful changes in your symptoms, energy levels, strength, or overall well-being.
Healing isn’t linear, either. There will be good days, bad days, setbacks, and periods where it feels like nothing is changing. I know how frustrating that can be, but it doesn’t mean your efforts aren’t making a difference.
We often assess symptoms at the beginning and end of our 3-6 month programs, and many clients report meaningful improvements over that time. By the end, they often have better food tolerance, a more varied diet, improved nutritional intake, and greater confidence navigating IBD nutrition.
It takes time to rebuild nutritional status.
It takes time to fibre train the gut.
It takes time to learn what works for your unique body.
Just because you don’t notice immediate changes doesn’t mean progress isn’t happening.
Keep showing up. The small things you do consistently (or baby steps, as I like to call them) matter 💞
