At our pre race speech this year, I spoke about how each runner is running their own race with their own bar, goals, and triumphs. We never know the hurdles that the runner next to us faced to get to the start line. Even the men and women who make it look easy toe the line with the carrot dangled just out of reach to make them that much better. Their effort matches those who grind their way to a new achievement. Each and every runner is admired on race day simply for showing up to do something hard.
The only thing that determines who stands on the podium is who shows up.
One person who showed up was Felicia Foster. She was gracious to let me give her a shout out race morning. See, Felicia showed up with some fire. Three months, 90 days after a kidney transplant. Years of dialysis. Felicia showed up with determination and a grateful heart to run the Twisted Ankle Trail Races. We are humbled to be a part of her comeback story that was featured in our local paper this week because she inspires us. Felicia is WHY we love this race so much.
Trail runners are special â¤ď¸ Each one has a story.
