The Autumnal Equinox is in three weeks, and I'm offering my first public plant medicine ceremony here at Deva Haven to honor it 🥳

The transition into fall time tips the scales of night and day, taking back our incredibly long hours of sunlight, and gently ushering us into increased periods of darkness. It is a time of recalibrating with the Earth as she tilts our hemisphere further away from the Sun and invites us into cold, quiet stillness.

Autumn's Equinox reminds us of the importance of community, kinship, and comradery, as we begin to prepare our minds, bodies, and homes for the coming freezes, the need to hunker down, and the reality of what it means when our part of world goes cold, dark, and ungenerous.

This day is composed of equal parts daylight and nighttime, compelling us to take inventory of our own psyche's brightly lit corridors - and shadowy corners.

This ceremony will provide guests with a ritualized shadow & light process, a deep sound journey, live acoustic music, and an opportunity to be served the Amazonian plant sacraments of Sananga and Rapé from a ten-year student of the ways of plant ceremony and lifelong follower of Earth ritual (me 🙃).

Additionally, as the Autumnal Equinox is a time of breaking bread and sharing food with community, I will be providing a yummy, warm post-ceremony meal 😋

I am only opening space for ten people in this intimate experience, so reserve your seat ahead of time because these ceremonies do fill up.

I'm offering a completely donation-based Gong Journey this Saturday 🥰

Utilizing the ancient tones and frequencies of five different gongs, I will take everyone a ride of harmonics that can really only be explained through the experience.

Gongs have been used for thousands of years, and they have actually been scientifically studied. Quantifiable research shows that when gongs are played, atoms detach from them and attach to people in their vicinity. These people show signs of improved emotional states & cognitive function, and even decreased blood pressure & tension, as well as other signs of physiological wellness.

I have been playing gongs specifically for around 7 years. My 25+ years in performing & musical arts combined with my 8+ years of using music & sound as medicine means that I do a lot more than just play whack-a-mole with big metal circles 😉 gong-play for me is a science, a system, a mathematical art, and a musical performance combined with a prayerful ritual.

I picked the wrong time to go the store for refreshments...

Just as I got into town 20 minutes away from home, I got a call from a friend that there was a fire near the property. Called my neighbor, and sure as hell some people who I've been listening to shooting guns for the last two days started a fire. They were evacuating the entire neighborhood and I was 20 minutes away.

I rushed back, and couldn't see the property from the highway because it was behind a plume of smoke. A fire marshall escorted me to the cabin, gave me 30 seconds to grab what I could, and now I'm watching the helicopters and airplanes try to save our neighborhood.

The fire seems to have been started only a few acres from my cabin, and the wind is blowing it with strength directly toward Deva Haven.

This area is a dried out tinderbox, and I'm more worried than I'd like to admit. I've never been in this situation before and have no clue what to do. I have the clothes on my back, my laptop, my phone, my wallet, and my passport. I didn't have time to grab toiletries or clothes, sacred items...

If this isn't Mars in Aries energy, I don't know what is. Just praying that people don't lose their homes. Our entire evacuated neighborhood is just lined up on the side of the highway watching our hills burn.

There's been this mostly-unfinished area near the western border of the property that is backed up against natural conservation land (where the beautiful sunsets take place) that has been getting on my nerves. Michael and I had mapped it out to be campsites and a little sunset-watching space.

Until yesterday, I hadn't done any work on the actual land, trails, or campsites since the last time he and I worked on it together. Partially because of winter, but mostly because taking that step really meant being in the reality that I'm here by myself.

There is so much that I/we had planned to do on/with the land, and it just felt so impossible to not only do it all alone, but to pick it up where he and I left off. I was rebelling against seeing our plans through, because I wanted "our plans" to die with the relationship.

Well, yesterday I finally got the wave of inspiration and motivation that I had been waiting for. I spent about 6 hours yesterday raking out new campsites and a little trail, and spent a few hours this morning lining the sites and trail with big ass rocks that I collected from the crater on the property (whole other story, but mostly not kidding).

I'm turning my sunset spot into a little zone that people can actually enjoy, and I've been loving "cleaning up" this area of the property.

Working this land will always be tough as hell (high desert, rocky ground), but my body needs the workout after a winter of being a sad, horizontal potato 🥔
