Dementia is a general term for a decline in mental ability severe enough to interfere with daily life, caused by physical brain changes. It is not a specific disease, but an umbrella term for symptoms like memory loss, language difficulties, and cognitive decline. Common types include Alzheimer's disease (60-80% of cases), vascular dementia, and Lewy body dementia. Early diagnosis is key for managing symptoms.

Key Early Warning Signs of Dementia

Symptoms often start slowly and progress over time:

Memory loss: Forgetting recent events, names, or misplacing items.

Difficulty with familiar tasks: Trouble with cooking, paying bills, or daily routines.

Confusion: Getting lost in familiar places or losing track of time.

Communication problems: Trouble following conversations or finding the right words.

Mood/Behavior Changes: Becoming fearful, suspicious, or withdrawn.

Visual/Spatial Problems: Difficulty judging distance or interpreting visual information.

Causes and Risk Factors
Dementia is caused by damage to brain cells, which hinders communication, often due to abnormal protein buildups (like amyloid plaques and tau tangles) or reduced blood flow.

Age: The biggest risk factor, with risks increasing significantly after age 65.

Lifestyle: Smoking, excessive alcohol, poor diet, and lack of exercise increase risk.

Health Conditions: High blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes are linked to vascular dementia.

Genetics: While some rare forms are hereditary, most dementias are not directly inherited.

Types of Dementia
Alzheimer's disease: The most common form, causing gradual cognitive decline.
Vascular dementia: Caused by impaired blood flow to the brain, often following a stroke.
Lewy body dementia: Marked by abnormal protein deposits, causing hallucinations and motor issues.
Frontotemporal dementia: Often affects personality, behavior, and language, more common in people under 60.
Mixed dementia: A combination of two or more types.

Management and Support
While there is no current cure for most types of dementia, early diagnosis allows for better management. Treatment includes:

Medication: To help manage symptoms.
Support Services: Resources to assist with daily living.
Lifestyle Changes: Regular physical, mental, and social activity can help manage the condition.

For more information, you can find help and support from organizations like the Alzheimer's Association.

The INFJ door slam is a deliberate process of emotional withdrawal. It begins with immense patience, where the INFJ provides repeated opportunities for growth and communicates feelings with absolute clarity.

They remain in the connection far longer than most, fueled by the belief that genuine effort can repair what matters.

Over time, when the same destructive patterns persist and conversations circle without change, a profound exhaustion takes hold. The energy to maintain the bond fades.

This shift manifests as shorter responses, less frequent outreach, and a withdrawal into silence. These subtle changes mark the internal transition from hope to necessity.

The final decision forms long before it becomes visible. By the time the distance is apparent, the internal closure is already complete. What appears sudden to an outside observer is actually the result of months of silent reflection.

Visible emotion signifies that a person still cares. Conflict and sadness are signs of investment.

When the INFJ becomes entirely calm and distant, the connection is gone.

This final boundary is a firm commitment to personal peace and the ultimate act of self-preservation.
