HAPPY BIRTHDAY to ME!
At 54, here is what I do every day to feel and look great! It’s not about looking younger, it’s about tapping into our inner wisdom to cultivate and maintain a positive outlook on aging. Feeling good in my body allows me to show up each day, and maintain balanced energy throughout the day.
1. STRENGTH TRAIN: Resistance and Strength training can be a strong power yoga class or lifting weights. I do this consistently 3X per week. Protects hormonal health, supports estrogen and progesterone balance, maintains and boosts testosterone (for mood, libido, and lean mass), lowers cortisol, improves insulin sensitivity.
2. YOGA & MEDITATION: This is practice has been my anchor for 23 years. Since becoming a yoga teacher, II am more in tune with what specific practice and poses my body needs, depending on the day.
3. MOVEMENT: I walk every single day. Getting in my steps improves my mood, reduces stress, lowers cortisol. Movement is NOT a workout, but is essential medicine for my body to keep my mind right, my joints healthy, and my mood balanced. Also enjoying outdoor time in nature is beneficial in regulating my nervous system. Cardio burn calories and improves heart health but does not trigger the same hormonal response as #1, so it’s wrong to focus solely on cardio. I also like rebounding. 10 minutes on the rebounder is equivalent to a much longer run! Try it!
4. SLEEP: I have dialed in my sleep, with smart supplements ( Magnesium Bio-optimizers, L-theanine) and natural hormone adjustments. I use essential oils like DoTERRA Serenity blend in the diffuser and some topical Lavender as I drift off. I sleep in a cold room, and often listen to delta waves audio to promote deeper sleep. Consistent sleep schedule is also key, even on the weekends; with a goal of 8 to 9 hours.
