Hello! Long time no post π
I am in lymphatic support group and someone posted asking about how to maximize lymphatic drainage while in a pool. I thought you all might appreciate the info. π€
Do self lymphatic drainage when you first get in the pool -
when you do your lymphatic drainage, try to use the palm of your hand and get a little bit of suction with the pressure of the water at the drain sites- clavicle, neck, armpit, belly, groin and end with clavicle.
Then try these exercises
If you are neck deep in the water, you will flex your arm and fist tight to your body, fist by the clavicle, then punch forward with your fist, extending your arm as you step forward.
(Careful not to overextend your arm here.)
This will compress the lymph nodes through arm and armpit then shift the excess fluids from your wrist up to your armpit.
Visualize it.
Then I suggest getting a pool floaty that supports your knees and your head, with a net in between so your body is floating with the water.
You could even do this with two pool noodles.
Then slowly kick yourself around the pool.
Because your legs are more even with your hip, with this floaty setup, the legs will drain more easily.
You can then go to the deeper end, hanging onto the edge of the pool. Slowly bring your knee up to your chest and then quick punch the foot down. This will compress the lymph nodes through the leg and belly then wave all of that fluid up from the ankle to the hip.
Also, walking backwards.
Take the beginning up each step swiftly. This shifts activates the fluid along the back and spine to drain + fluid from low back and glutes to drain.
