Too many women don’t learn these things until they’re dealing with pain, leaking, discomfort, or a difficult postpartum recovery.

Lindsay believes every expecting mom deserves to know these 5 things before they become a problem.

1. You don’t have to stop exercising.

Unless your healthcare provider has told you otherwise, movement is one of the best things you can do for both you and your baby.

2. Leaking, pain, and pressure aren’t things you should ignore.

Pelvic pain, leaking when you sneeze, feelings of heaviness, or discomfort during pregnancy and postpartum are often signs that your body needs support, not something you simply have to “push through.”

3. Breathing is more important than you think.

Your diaphragm, core, and pelvic floor are designed to work together. Learning how to breathe well throughout pregnancy helps to build a stronger foundation for labor, delivery, and postpartum recovery.

4. Preparing for postpartum starts during pregnancy.

Recovery doesn’t begin the day your baby is born. The movement habits, breathing mechanics, and body awareness you develop during pregnancy directly impact how confidently and comfortably you recover afterward.

5. You deserve support before there’s a problem.

You don’t have to wait until you’re leaking, in pain, or feeling disconnected from your body to see a pelvic floor physical therapist. One of the best times to assess how your body moves is before symptoms become limiting.

Our goal is to help you move well through pregnancy, recover well after birth, and continue feeling like yourself long after the newborn stage is over.

If you’re pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or navigating postpartum, Lindsay is here to help you prepare your body for every stage of motherhood.

Together, we’ll assess your movement, address concerns early, and create a plan that helps make the transition from pregnancy to postpartum and life beyond babies as seamless as possible.

We’ve all been there.

“It just started hurting one day.”

But here’s the thing... your body rarely wakes up and decides to be painful overnight.

More often, pain is the result of movement patterns, weakness, compensation, or mobility limitations that have been quietly hanging around in the background for weeks, months, or even years.

Think of your body like the bushes. You only see what’s sticking out, but the real answer is hidden underneath. 🌳

The sooner you uncover it, the sooner you can stop chasing symptoms and start making lasting progress.

Love pickleball, but your back doesn’t?

Before you step on the court, spend a few minutes preparing your body for the demands of the game. 💪🏻

Pickleball requires a lot of bending, rotating, reaching, and quick changes of direction. If your hips, core, and spine aren’t moving well together, your lower back often ends up doing more work than it should.

These two simple exercises can help improve mobility, activate the right muscles, and prepare your body to move more efficiently before you play. 👍🏻

A few minutes of preparation today could help you enjoy many more games tomorrow.

📞 If back pain is keeping you from playing pickleball, golfing, exercising, or doing the things you love, call Total Performance Physical Therapy in West Bloomfield at 734-772-1064 and let’s create a plan that keeps you moving. 📝😎

When this client came to see Brett, he had a torn rotator cuff and one big goal:

Get back to water skiing. ⛷️🌊

Many people assume injuries like this automatically mean surgery, months of limitations, or giving up the activities they love.

But with a personalized treatment plan, consistent effort, and the right guidance, he was back on the water skiing just two months later. 😎

This is why we do what we do.

Not to help people simply recover from injuries, but to help them get back to living life on their terms. 👍🏻

What would getting out of pain allow YOU to do again?

The goal isn’t just to fix your shoulder.

Or your back.

Or your knee.

Because your goal probably isn’t to have a stronger shoulder, stronger hip, or stronger knee. Your goal is to golf without pain, keep up with your kids, stay active as you age, travel comfortably, and continue doing the things you love.

That’s why our treatment plans focus on strength, mobility, stability, balance, coordination, and movement quality throughout the entire body.

The goal isn’t simply to reduce pain.

The goal is to improve your quality of life.

Most women are never taught how to breathe during pregnancy or postpartum.

Then they wonder why their neck feels tight, their shoulders are constantly tense, their core feels disconnected, or why exercise doesn’t feel the same anymore.

That’s why Lindsay teaches 360 breathing so often.

360 breathing (also called diaphragmatic or circumferential breathing) encourages expansion of the rib cage in all directions (front, sides, and back) rather than just shallow chest breathing.

As your baby grows, it’s common to shift into shallow chest breathing patterns.

360 breathing helps restore rib cage mobility, improve oxygen efficiency, reduce tension in the neck and shoulders, and create a healthier pressure system throughout the body. 👍🏻

For postpartum women, it’s one of the best ways to reconnect with the core and pelvic floor.

Instead of forcing the muscles to work harder, 360 breathing helps them respond naturally to movement and pressure, supporting healing, reducing symptoms like leaking or heaviness, and building a stronger foundation for exercise and everyday life.

Small change. Big difference.

A lot of people know WHAT exercises to do. Far fewer know HOW to do them correctly.

The difference matters.

In this video, Brett walks through 4 lower back exercises and the specific cues that make them effective.

Small adjustments in positioning, breathing, and movement quality can completely change whether or not these exercises will relieve your lower back pain.

This is the same level of detail Brett brings to every session and every home exercise program. 😎

At Total Performance Physical Therapy in West Bloomfield, we don’t just hand you a list of exercises. We make sure you understand exactly what you’re doing, why you’re doing it, and how it helps you reach your goals. 👍🏻
