AIDB Baseball Night at Choccolocco Park

Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB) sponsored an evening of baseball at Choccolocco Park for students, staff, alumni, friends and the entire AIDB community. Over 450+ fans showed up to enjoy the Choccolocco Monsters take on the Atlanta Astros in a double-header on Wednesday, June 10th at 5:00 pm. Units and departments across all of AIDB set up booths and tables to share the AIDB story to the community. β€œIt was great to see all of AIDB come together for such a fun night of fun and sharing of the AIDB story, β€œ said Becky Watson, Chief Institutional Advancement Officer for AIDB.

Clara Scelsi, a rising 11th grader at the Alabama School for the Blind, sang the National Anthem while David Vaden, an alumnus of the Alabama School for the Deaf, performed it in American Sign Language. Both did a beautiful job. Annaya Fanning, a student from the Alabama School for the Deaf (ASD) STEM Academy threw out the first pitch to get the game started. Several other students from the ASD STEM Academy led the crowd in β€œTake Me Out to the Ballgame” during the 7th inning stretch. A good time was had by all!

πŸŒˆπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈβ±οΈ PE fun with purpose!

Students in Coach Mallory’s class recently played an exciting game called Sort the Rainbow! When the timer started, students raced around the gym to collect bean bags one at a time and return them to the matching colored hula hoop. Once every bean bag was sorted, the timer stopped β€” and then the challenge began again as everyone worked together to beat their previous time! 🌟

This activity helped students practice:
πŸ”΄ Color recognition
🟠 Spatial awareness
🟑 Teamwork and cooperation
🟒 Listening and following directions
πŸ”΅ Peer helping skills

Our students did a wonderful job supporting their classmates with visual impairments by helping guide bean bags to the correct hoops. It was amazing to see teamwork, encouragement, and lots of movement all in one activity! πŸ’ͺ🌈😊

πŸŽ‰ And so much more!

We were also excited to welcome students from Hope Academy who joined in the fun and helped make the day even more special! πŸ€πŸ’™

One of the biggest surprises of the day was the incredible Harley Davidson Hog Ride benefiting our school! 🏍️πŸ”₯ Students had the opportunity to socialize with the motorcycle riders, check out the amazing bikes up close, and enjoy a truly unique experience. The smiles and excitement were priceless!

πŸπŸ‘©β€πŸ³ Mrs. Christina’s class recently turned the Student Center into their very own kitchen as they cooked a delicious spaghetti meal together! πŸ§„πŸ…πŸ§€

Students practiced important life skills like following directions, measuring ingredients, teamwork, kitchen safety, and cleaning up β€” all while having fun and enjoying a tasty reward at the end! 🍽️✨

Hands-on learning experiences like these help build independence, confidence, and real-world skills our students can carry into the future. We are so proud of all their hard work! β€οΈπŸ‘

Some of our students recently enjoyed an exciting trip to ASB to visit the Scholastic Book Fair! 🚌❀️
