Students participated in a Cardiopulmonary Science Mini Course as part of the AHCOP Summer Institute, gaining hands-on experience in our simulation lab and exploring the exciting world of healthcare careers.

From learning about the anatomy and function of the heart to practicing intubation techniques and life-support skills, students were immersed in real-world healthcare experiences designed to educate, inspire, and empower.

Programs like these help expose students to rewarding career pathways in the health sciences while building the knowledge and confidence needed to pursue their goals. The future of healthcare is bright—and it starts with opportunities like this. 💙

Yesterday, we kicked off the 2026 AHCOP Summer Institute by welcoming an outstanding group of rising high school juniors and seniors to FAMU Towers North! 🏡💚🧡

Over the next three weeks, these future healthcare leaders will experience campus life while exploring the many healthcare programs offered at FAMU. Through hands-on learning, engaging lectures, and career exploration activities, students will gain valuable insight into the diverse opportunities available in healthcare.

We’re excited to be a part of their journey and can’t wait to see all they accomplish this summer!

The Division of Health Care Management hosted its annual HCA Healthcare Day on the Hill Showcase and Hiring Event, connecting students directly with professionals in the healthcare administration field.

Through panel discussions and networking opportunities, students gained insight into career pathways, heard real-world experiences, and explored the skills needed to succeed in healthcare management. The event also created space for meaningful conversations, allowing students to ask questions, build connections, and engage with potential employers.

More than a showcase, this experience reflects an ongoing commitment to strengthening the pipeline of future healthcare leaders and supporting student success beyond the classroom.

The 4th Annual Hip Hop & Occupation Summit brought together students, faculty, and professionals for a meaningful conversation at the intersection of culture and care. From student-led presentations to an engaging keynote, the event created space to explore how identity, expression, and community shape the work of occupational therapy.

Attendees had the opportunity to connect, learn, and reflect on the role of Hip Hop in healthcare while building community and expanding their perspective on the field.

Meet Dr. Mary Simmons, Dean of the School of Allied Health Sciences at Florida A&M University.
A two-time FAMU alum, Dr. Simmons earned her Bachelor of Science in Cardiopulmonary Science and a Master of Public Health with a concentration in Environmental and Occupational Health before going on to earn her Doctor of Public Health in Community Health. With more than 20 years of experience in higher education, she brings a strong focus on student success, research, and community impact.

Throughout her career, Dr. Simmons has secured more than $4.5 million in funding to support programs, research, and student advancement. Her leadership continues to strengthen FAMU Health initiatives while expanding opportunities for experiential learning, licensure success, and career readiness.

Her work reflects a commitment to preparing students to lead, serve, and make a lasting impact in healthcare and their communities.
