Let's get one thing right: bodies are cool AF ๐Ÿคฉ

Our bodies work hard 24/7 to keep us alive.

A few of the coolest things I thank my body for are allowing me to:
๐Ÿ’š Bike ride to cool places and feel the breeze
๐Ÿ’š Play with my dog
๐Ÿ’š Dance with my husband on a random weeknight just because
๐Ÿ’š Grow and maintain muscle to not only help me be strong but also to help me with balance
๐Ÿ’š Remember valuable information and study interesting topics!
๐Ÿ’š Listen to the most beautiful, emotional, and poetic music
๐Ÿ’š Travel and attend loved ones' weddings, holidays, and other special events or spontaneous getaways
๐Ÿ’š And so much more!!

And we know, it can be difficult to feel thankful for our body when we have spent so many years at war with it ๐Ÿ˜”

First of all - you do you. We aren't here to shame your food or alcohol choices ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™€๏ธ

What we DO take issue with, however, is the social pressure to make choices in the name of "health" ๐Ÿ™„ with little to no evidence to back said choices.
-
You don't have to buy the most expensive brand, or the most "organic", "local", or "free-range" foods to be healthy. Studies indicate there is negligible, if any, evidence pointing to these foods being more nutritious. (it's honestly a bunch of fear-mongering and fancy marketing) ๐Ÿฅฑ๐Ÿค‘

And we also aren't here to shame anyone who can't afford or have access to these higher-priced items. period.

Health is not a condition or even social status only reserved for those who can afford it. And we at Paradine Shift are here to break these barriers, shine a light on the science, myth-bust common misconceptions, and support you in your journey ๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’—

When health is equated with diet, exercise, and body size - so many humans' lived experiences end up stigmatized and/or erased entirely โ˜น๏ธ

We are here to say that first: that body size โ‰  health. The science and countless anecdotes simply don't support this.
-
And second, we must, at the very least, consider the social determinants of health when thinking of someone's overall wellbeing.
-
๐Ÿ”บ Do they have access to quality healthcare? Is weight stigma in their providers' offices preventing them from seeking care? Can they afford care?
๐Ÿ”บ How does racism and discrimination affect their life and/or prevent them from opportunity?
๐Ÿ”บ What does their access to food look like?
๐Ÿ”บ Do they have safe transportation and/or housing?

Since 2020, many of us have experienced new stressors and limited access to goods, care, and services. And for many, this limited access just became exacerbated by the worldwide shutdown.

So today, we invite you to take a pause โธ when thinking of others around us. Their collective experience. We are all deserving of respect - from our loved ones, coworkers, and especially care providers.

P.S. You also don't owe anyone health. (being "healthy" doesn't make you a more valuable human) ๐ŸคŽ

what does all of that mean? despite popular belief, there is no "hack" to metabolism ๐Ÿ’ฅ

some of the biggest factors in our body's chemical processes include:
โ—ฝ๏ธ our genes/genetic history
โ—ฝ๏ธ food intake (are we getting ENOUGH to eat?)
โ—ฝ๏ธ disease state/autoimmune disorders and anything that may affect our hormones
โ—ฝ๏ธ activity/movement

studies on restrictive diets indicate that our metabolism slows significantly in response to the lack of energy consumed. meaning, our bodies are smart as hell. they prioritize certain bodily functions over others when we restrict our food intake - which can lead to some serious medical complications.

๐Ÿ’– you don't have to live a life of restriction to be worthy. you are worthy, here and now. and you were worthy yesterday and will be tomorrow too ๐Ÿ’–

Did you know that The FDA does NOT have the authority to approve dietary supplements for safety and effectiveness, or to approve their labeling before the supplements are sold to the public? ๐Ÿคฏ

So why the hell are these things so HEAVILY promoted and pushed onto us in the name of health?

Honestly, we sometimes wish it was that easy ๐Ÿ™„. That there was a quick fix to healing our relationship with food, and body and incorporating health-promoting activities/behaviors that make sense for US.

Weight: the force that gravitation exerts upon a body, equal to the mass of the body times the local acceleration of gravity (AKA our gravitational pull to Earth ๐ŸŒŽ... not necessarily a marker of health)

Sooooo... does this mean we would be more valuable or "healthy" on the moon? ๐Ÿง

But seriously, can you even imagine a life beyond the scale? A life where we throw that sh*t in the trash and forget about it forever?? ๐Ÿ˜
-
If it's hard to picture, we get it.
We've been there...waking up each day, hoping to have a better day than yesterday.
-
What defines a day? Easy, right? - that object in the bathroom. Collecting dust in the corner as we place it on a pedestal.
-
Numbers, the language that can be spoken worldwide, can make or break our day.
-
We work up the courage to stand on that piece of plastic or glass - barefoot, naked, and with an empty bladder (to have the best chance at an "accurate" number)
-...and then it determines our eating patterns for the day. ๐Ÿ’” our ability to be present, to enjoy moments with loved ones, to focus on work, school etc.
-
It sits there, in the back of our minds all day. we think through every scenario to manipulate the number by the end of the day or the next morning.
-
It's a never-ending cycle.
-
And for what? We know that diets do not work in the long run and are not a health-promoting behavior, so what do we do?
-
๐Ÿ’™ Let's reframe health as a whole. And with us, we will look deeper into our relationship with food and body & give you the tools to ditch diets for good (a paraDINE shift, if you will) ๐Ÿ˜‰
