A low testosterone result can feel like an answer, especially when you’ve already been wondering why you’re exhausted, losing strength, struggling with motivation, noticing changes in sexual function, or simply not feeling like yourself.
But I don’t want to treat a number without understanding the person attached to it.
Testosterone levels can be influenced by when the lab was drawn, medications, sleep, weight, other health conditions, and more. Sometimes testing needs to be repeated. Sometimes the symptoms point us toward something else. And sometimes, after a thorough evaluation, testosterone therapy may be an appropriate conversation.
The goal is not to get your testosterone as high as possible. It’s to understand why you feel different and decide what actually makes sense for your health.
If you’ve been staring at a lab result wondering what you’re supposed to do with it, that’s exactly the kind of conversation worth having.
