🧠 Craniosynostosis: Let’s Talk About It! 🧠
Did you know babies are supposed to have spaces between the bones of their skull?
These spaces, called sutures, allow the skull to grow as the brain grows.
With craniosynostosis, one or more of these sutures closes earlier than expected. This can affect the shape and growth of the skull and sometimes requires specialized treatment.
Here are a few things we want families to know:
1. Head shape matters! An unusual head shape can have many causes, and not every unusual shape is craniosynostosis.
2. Every child is different. There are several types of craniosynostosis, and each child’s treatment plan is individualized.
3. Early evaluation is important. If you have concerns about your baby’s head shape, talk with your pediatrician or a craniofacial specialist.
4. Families don’t have to navigate it alone. A multidisciplinary craniofacial team can help guide families through evaluation, treatment, and follow-up care.
And most importantly…
✨ Craniosynostosis does not define a child. ✨
This Craniosynostosis Awareness Month, we’re celebrating the strength of our little patients and the families who support them every step of the way!
