Kintsugi, which literally means "golden joinery," is the ancient Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer dusted in powdered gold, silver, or platinum.
Many of us move through life carrying our own visible and invisible cracks. We often respond by trying to hide or push away our struggles, believing we should be stronger, or somehow untouched by difficulty. Sometimes we try to generate self compassion for ourselves, and don’t really know how to do it.
Rather than resisting discomfort or judging our imperfections, sending our cracks golden energy can bring wholeness.
Mindfulness and meditation invite us to bring gentle awareness to whatever is present. Over time, this practice helps us cultivate acceptance, and inner steadiness. Like a Kintsugi vessel, we do not become whole by erasing our cracks. We become whole by learning to embrace them, discovering that wisdom, strength, and even beauty can emerge from the places where life has challenged us most.
I believe healing can be a shiny, golden join between the past and the present.
