You do not have to move houses, quit your job, or disappear to another country to change the cues around you. Sometimes identity shifts begin with very ordinary things
Practical ways to shift your environment:
• spend less time with people who constantly pull you back into an old version of yourself
• intentionally deepen friendships with people who expand how you think
• paint a wall or rearrange a room
• replace art that no longer feels like you
• change your bedding, lighting, scent, or music
• wear colors you associate with the version of yourself you are becoming
• change your hairstyle, makeup, jewelry, or signature scent
• update your profile picture
• clean out screenshots, old messages, photos, or digital clutter that keep you emotionally tethered to another chapter
• change your phone wallpaper to something that represents where you are going
• unfollow accounts that repeatedly trigger comparison, scarcity, or fear
• follow people whose lives, ideas, creativity, or confidence expand your sense of possibility
• take a different route to work
• work from a different coffee shop
• move your desk toward the window
• buy flowers for the version of you who lives beautifully now
• create one corner of your home that reflects the identity you are stepping into
• stop saving your “good” clothes, dishes, perfume, or candles for some future life
• introduce a new playlist for your morning or getting-ready ritual
• change the language you use to describe yourself
The underlying idea isn’t that a new painting magically changes your life
It’s that environments contain cues
Those cues can reinforce:
this is who I have always been
or gently suggest:
we do things differently here ✨
