🎉 Celebrating 75 Years of Thorne Drug! 🎉

As we celebrate Thorne Drug’s 75th Anniversary, we’ve been having a wonderful time digging through old photographs and remembering the people who have been part of our history since 1951.

These photos feature two very important men in the history of Thorne Drug — G.T. Thorne and Bob Rochelle — during Tarboro’s Bicentennial Celebration in 1960. As part of the celebration, the men of Tarboro were expected to grow some type of facial hair…or “face” a fine! We’ve also included a third photo featuring Esther Thorne.

As part of our 75th Anniversary, we are trying to compile a list of everyone who has worked at Thorne Drug over the years, and we need your help!

For many people in Tarboro, Thorne Drug was their very first job. In the 1950s and 1960s, the pharmacy also had a soda fountain, so there were plenty of young people who got their start working behind the counter, at the fountain, or elsewhere in the store.

Do you remember someone who worked at Thorne Drug? Please share their name in the comments — even if you’re not sure of the exact years.

And we would especially love to see your old photographs of Thorne Drug, whether they show the inside of the store, the storefront, the soda fountain, employees, customers, or just everyday life around downtown Tarboro.
