Garlic bulbils or baby garlic as I like to call it. Comes from the top of the stalk or scape. You can plant these but they won't make a full head for 2 years. You can eat them for a garlicy bite. Growing your own is a lot of work but very satisfying when you harvest tasty and nutritious food. Garlic is planted in the Fall and harvested here in Northern CT just before 4th of July. You know it's ready when the bottom two leaves are dead. They also send up scapes, which will eventually flower. Cutting those off sends more energy to bulb production, plus you can use the scapes fresh or cooked for a garlic flavor or make a pesto with it.
