Wheelchairs 4 Kids Wheelchairs 4 Kids is dedicated to improving the lives of children with physical disabilities and their families.

Wheelchairs 4 Kids was founded in 2011 with one goal in mind – to give physically disabled children and youth a better quality of life. While working for other children’s charities, it became apparent to our founders, Lonnie and Madeline Robinson, that the need for an organization like Wheelchairs 4 Kids was great. Often times, they would meet children in wheelchairs and mobility aids that were in

such disrepair that they were held together by nothing more than duct tape, or were too ill-fitting to be beneficial to the child. It was also common to hear stories of necessary medical equipment or therapy aids being denied by insurance for varying reasons. Filling that gap was and continues to be the mission of Wheelchairs 4 Kids. What started as a one-person show out of our founders’ spare bedroom has grown into an organization that proves that a small group of dedicated people can make a positive difference in the world. By using funds secured from a child’s local community, we are able to support our dedication to improving the lives of children with physical disabilities and their families. Wheelchairs 4 Kids proudly offers four programs to assist families in need. All of these programs serve our community at no charge to our Wheel Kid families. Our flagship program, Let’s Roll, focuses on mobility and accessibility. This program provides wheelchairs, home and vehicle modifications, as well as other necessary medical equipment, that may otherwise be out of financial reach. The Facilities program is a sub-program of Let’s Roll. Through this service, we donate gently used items from our equipment closet to schools, clinics, and other facilities where they can be used to benefit multiple children. Once a child has received equipment through Let’s Roll, they become one of our fondly named “Wheel Kids,” which allows them to participate in our three other programs. Our Wheely Fun Days program focuses on inclusion and socialization. Wheel Kids are invited to join us for confidence-building, accessible, extraordinary experiences. Our Wheel Kids go waterskiing, ziplining, and indoor skydiving. They attend Tampa Bay Buccaneers Training Camp, sled hockey clinics with the Lightning Community Hockey Development team, and live WWE events. They make memories that will last a lifetime at adaptive summer camps, Christmas parties, and Halloween festivals. These experiences help them make connections with each other, as well as break the ice with their peers. Additionally, Wheelchairs 4 Kids has a Scholarship Program, which makes continued education and vocational training a reality for our Wheel Kids. People with disabilities often struggle to enter the workforce. We want to help these kids grow and develop the tools they need to get good jobs. An impartial committee chooses recipients out of the applications that we receive. These Scholarships are named and granted in honor of four integral members of our team who we have lost: Lonnie Robinson (Founder), Lisa Schmidt (Director of Development), Chris Lehman (Feature Writer), Kimberly Knorr (Founding President). Finally, Wheelchairs 4 Kids has faced the reality of loss more each year. It is heart-breaking when families who are experiencing the worst days of their lives reach out asking if we know anyone who can assist with final expenses. That is why we started our Compassion Program, which provides up to $1,000 in final expenses. We’re able to fund these programs through grants, community partnerships, and donations from caring community members like you! Our Guardians of the Wheel Kids Club is also available for supporters wishing to set up a recurring monthly donation. Thank you for helping us help over 1900 children since inception. We’re looking forward to what the future will hold and are grateful for the dedication and support that we have received since opening our doors. Please feel free to check us out on social media or email [email protected] for more information!

At 11 years old, Hansel is a true fighter. After a near-drowning accident left him with a severe brain injury, doctors were unsure if he would survive. Yet Hansel continues to prove what strength and determination look like every day.

He loves being outdoors, listening to birds chirp, and exploring books about forests and nature. Recently, he gave his family a moment they will never forget when he said “Mom” for the first time since his accident.

Now, Hansel needs a tilt-in-space wheelchair to provide the support and positioning he needs to safely participate in daily activities and continue making progress. His journey is filled with hope, resilience, and the unwavering love of those who believe in him.

Please be a sponsor for him.

Meet 5-year-old Jurnee, who was a preemie born at 26 weeks, when she was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy due to a brain bleed. She has muscle weakness in her arms and legs, which affects her balance, endurance, and strength. Jurnee is a charismatic and sweet little girl who remains happy and active.
Jurnee has an array of interests. She is a huge fan of Sesame Street, especially Abby Cadabby and Elmo. She likes watching action movies; Fast and Furious and Transformers are a couple of her favorites. She is a bright girl who enjoys school. Jurnee enjoys watching basketball with her dad. Jurnee is known as a loveable girl who enjoys spending time at Granny’s house. Jurnee may not say much, but her radiant smile and bright eyes speak volumes—touching the hearts of everyone she meets and making the world around her a better place.
Because of her Cerebral Palsy and Epilepsy, Jurnee is fully dependent on others for her care. A properly fitting manual wheelchair would provide her with the safe, comfortable support she needs to get out into the world, explore her surroundings, and continue creating special moments with the people she loves.
Please consider becoming Jurnee’s sponsor and helping give her the comfort and freedom she deserves. Your support would truly make a life-changing difference.

Saturday was a thrilling day water-skiing at Lake David with Ann's Angels Adaptive Waterski Foundation and our Wheel Kids! Thanks so much to the JCI Senate for sponsoring the event each year and providing such wonderful volunteers! Everyone was all smiles on the lake and the land where water gun fights and games, as well as pizza provided by Papa Johns Pizza kept the fun going throughout the beautiful afternoon in Groveland!

Meet Ramzy, a bright and resilient nineteen-year-old living with Cerebral Palsy. Although he is home-bound in his wheelchair, Ramzy continues to bring joy to those around him with his contagious smile and loving spirit.

Currently, Ramzy’s mother must carry him and his wheelchair up and down the stairs just to get him in and out of their home. Ramzy is in need of a vertical platform lift to provide safe and reliable access, improve his independence, and ease the physical demands on his caregiver. Please consider becoming Ramzy’s sponsor today and help make a life-changing difference for him and his family.

Living with Cerebral Palsy and limited vision, 5-year-old Junior is fully dependent on others for his daily care and mobility. As he has grown, having the right wheelchair has become essential for his comfort, safety, and overall well-being.

Thanks to his new wheelchair, Junior now has the proper support and positioning he needs to stay comfortable throughout the day, reducing the risk of pain and helping him participate more fully in activities at home, school, and in his community. His new wheelchair will also make it easier for his family and caregivers to safely transport him, allowing him to spend more time enjoying experiences outside the home and creating meaningful memories with those he loves.

We are deeply grateful to the Scaife Family Foundation for making this incredible gift possible. Your generosity has provided Junior with so much more than a wheelchair—it has given him greater comfort, improved support, increased opportunities for inclusion, and a better quality of life. Thank you for helping Junior experience the world with greater safety, dignity, and joy.
