Porthos Vom Drachen 's 3rd Birthday! Over 2 years ago we were praying for a miracle and the miracle happened.

Our boy developed serious medical problems around 4-5 months and for 4 months was not able to stand. All specialized vets we used returned the same verdict: "he will never walk and he should be euthanized" as his body had multiple fractures on his spine, hips and back legs, bones did not develop properly, etc.

Now, at 3 years old, Porthos runs miles every day (even if his back legs are not fully functional), takes great care of our property, is doing a great job as a service dog and drives us crazy at times.

Porthos provided us with the experience of taking care of a severely disabled dog, of figuring out the right treatment and therapies, of going through a roller-coaster of emotions (from fear and anxiety to hope and happiness) and of experiencing/witnessing a miracle.

In today's society it is easy to fake awareness and Christianity. Many are doing so while hiding their inner hatred, anger, arrogance which are not as easy to spot as vanity, pride, greed, lust, etc.

One easier way to look "inside" one's heart, is to observe the way they treat the people weaker than themselves (less powerful, less important, less wealthy, less educated) and especially the animals (both wild and domestic).

Animals, for the most part, "instinctively" know how to read a person's heart as well as to "read" between themselves. Watch how animals react to people, watch how animals interact with eachother. Most of all, watch how people treat animals.

Part of our duties as Poor Soldiers of Christ is to help/defend those who cannot defend themselves. Part of our daily routine should be to show kindness to animals. It will not only help them, it will lower our levels of hatred, arrogance, anger, while increasing our humility, kindness, temperance, charity, and will plant/feed the seed of the kingdom of God.

"1 And now my children, listen to the words of truth to work righteousness, and all the Law of the Most High, and do not go astray through the spirit of hatred, for it is evil in all the doings of men.
2 Whatever a man does, the hater abominates himself: and through a man works the Law of the LORD, he does not prise Him; through a man fears the LORD, and takes pleasure in that which is righteous, he does not love Him.
3 He disparages the truth, he envies him that prospers, he welcomes evil-speaking, he loves arrogance, for hatred blinds his soul" Testaments of the Twelve Patriarchs 3:1-3
