Men’s Health Month is a good time to ask a tougher question than “How many steps did I get?”

Loud snoring, “I’m fine” gasping at night, jaw clenching, and morning headaches are some of the most common early warning signs men ignore. They’re not just annoyances—they often point to sleep‑breathing issues (like obstructive sleep apnea) working together with jaw and TMJ problems to:
- Drain your energy and focus
- Increase strain on your heart and blood pressure
- Trigger facial pain, neck tension, and worn‑down teeth

If this sounds familiar—for you or someone you care about—start by getting curious, not by signing up for a machine you don’t want:
- Track a few nights of snoring and breathing (apps, recordings, or a partner’s notes).
- Notice when jaw pain, clenching, or headaches show up—morning, late afternoon, only on stressful days?
- Learn how custom oral sleep appliances and TMJ care can support breathing and jaw position together, instead of treating them as separate problems.

This month, we’re sharing more about the connection between men’s sleep, snoring, and TMJ—and simple ways to tell whether it’s time to dig deeper. Keep an eye on our posts, save the ones that fit you, and share them with the snorer in your life who still says, “It’s no big deal.”

“Profile of a mouth breather” isn’t just a meme.

Chronic mouth breathing—especially in kids and teens—can be linked with a narrower face, receding chin, smaller airway, and forward head posture over time. It also shows up as snoring, dry mouth, teeth grinding, and feeling tired even after a “full night” of sleep.

Llook at the whole picture: airway, jaw joint, and sleep. If you (or your child) snore, mouth‑breathe, or always wake up tired, an airway‑focused exam and home sleep testing can help you catch problems early and protect long‑term facial growth and health.

Forward head posture and low tongue posture aren’t just “bad habits” — they can literally shrink your airway and stress your TMJ while you sleep.

When your head drifts forward and your tongue hangs low in the mouth, the jaw is pulled down and back, the tongue crowds the throat, and the space behind it narrows. That combo makes it easier for the airway to collapse at night, feeding snoring, sleep apnea, and next‑day TMJ and neck pain.

For better sleep and jaw health, aim for:
- Head stacked over shoulders (not jutting forward)
- Lips together, breathing through the nose
- Tongue resting gently on the roof of the mouth, just behind the front teeth, instead of lying low or pushing on the teeth

Small posture and tongue‑position changes during the day can support a more open airway at night and make your oral appliance or TMJ treatment work even better. If you’re still waking with jaw pain, headaches, or fatigue, it may be time to look at more than just your teeth.

Before you toss your extra clothes….Today we’re asking for a little help.

Our daughter Myla made the Herriman High Dance Company, and her team is raising funds through a clothing drive with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Utah. We’re collecting clean, gently used clothing, shoes, accessories, and soft linens at our office through June 30.

If you’re coming in for a visit (or just driving by), bring a bag and turn closet clutter into mentoring and support for local kids.

Still waking up exhausted even when you “do everything right”?

You can have perfect sleep hygiene, a clean diet, and stop eating 3 hours before bed…but if your airway is collapsing at night, your brain is still starving for oxygen. Late‑night meals create a traffic jam between melatonin and blood sugar. Obstructive sleep apnea adds a second traffic jam by physically blocking airflow.

Our 3‑2‑1 Sleep Method bridges both:
- 3 hours: Finish your last meal at least 3 hours before bed so blood sugar can settle while melatonin rises.
- 2 minutes: Take 2 minutes to pop in a custom oral sleep appliance that keeps your airway open.
- 1 goal: Deep, tissue‑repairing sleep that actually restores your brain and body.

If your habits are dialed in but you’re still smashing the snooze button, it may be time to look past “sleep tips” and take a serious look at your airway.

Snoring a Little, Tired a Lot? Don’t Ignore “Mild” -

I was trying to stay out of the way of some other bikers, just before I had to brake on a small patch of sand, coupled with a sudden stop by another biker that led to a split knee and a torn handlebar tape.

Most people think “if my sleep study says mild, it’s not that bad.” The truth? “Mild” sleep apnea can still mean your airway is collapsing, your brain is jolted awake, and your long‑term health risk is climbing.

If you’re snoring, gasping, or waking up exhausted, don’t wait for it to get “severe” before you take it seriously. Get a proper home sleep study, track your nights, and build a specialist team that actually looks beyond the word “mild.”
