Stop and think for a moment… When you fall on the ground, can you crawl to nearby furniture and get yourself back up?

Can your knees tolerate putting weight on them? Can you tolerate putting the weight on your wrists?

Everyone should have an action plan!

When things get tough, you've got to dig deep and keep on going 💪

I say this out of genuine love and compassion for you… Quit feeling sorry for yourself and get back the life you used to enjoy.

No, it might be near impossible to get back your previous life but you can certainly find pieces of it that you enjoyed the most. Life might look a little different these days but there's people out there that need you, need your laughter, your kindness and your help.

Life can change pretty quickly when you start depending on other people to do things for you. You might even already be in that circumstance.

It's time to make a change, those changes might be small right now but can be so meaningful for you down the road!

If you're a believer, remember put your trust in God and know that he's there with you every step of the way 🙏

Ever feel like food or water is going down the wrong pipe? 💧

Coughing or choking while eating or drinking is NOT something you should just brush off as a normal part of aging!

A FEES exam is a simple swallowing test that allows a trained speech therapist to actually SEE what’s happening when you swallow using a tiny camera through your nose.

The best part? You don’t have to go to a hospital to get this done!

A huge thank you to Arizona Speech and Swallow Therapy for performing this exam on me and showing just how simple the process can be! They offer this test right in their office and may even be able to come to your home.

If you or a loved one frequently coughs or chokes while eating or drinking, I highly recommend talking with a licensed speech-language pathologist who specializes in swallowing.

Swallowing problems are common, but that doesn’t mean they should be ignored!

Getting stuck on the floor is one of the biggest fears I hear from older adults...and their families.

The truth is… it happens more often than you think.

The good news? There are tools like the VOCIC AX35 that can give you a safe, simple way back up...instead of always having to call the paramedics.

👉 This doesn’t replace strength and training (we still need that)
👉 But it does give you confidence and a backup plan

🎯 Discount like below if you’re interested in getting one for your home

If this hits close to home, send me a message. Let’s make sure you or your loved one is prepared...and getting stronger at the same time 😉

We don’t talk enough about this part.

Everyone wants to focus on the big wins…
But this is what actually matters.

Taking out the trash.
Getting dressed without help.
Walking across your own home with confidence.
Helping your spouse instead of relying on them for everything.

I’ve seen what it feels like when someone loses that.
And I’ve seen what it means when they get it back.

It’s not “just the little things.”
It’s independence. It’s dignity. It’s purpose.

And once it’s gone… you realize it was everything.

Getting off a cane or walker doesn’t start with perfect walking-->it starts right here.

Small, controlled steps.
Hands on the counter if needed.
Learning to shift your weight again… heel to toe.

This is where confidence is rebuilt.

Too often people rush the process or avoid it altogether. But the truth is, your body just needs repetition and the right environment to feel safe again.

Start simple:
Rock forward and back.
Take a step.
Reset.
Repeat.

Progress isn’t about perfection, it’s about showing your body it can do it again.

Support less over time. Trust more over time.

That’s how you get your independence back

Not many people think about what happens after a fall.

Do you need to call the paramedics right away? Have you been in this situation before? Is there a phone nearby or someway I can notify anyone? Can I get to the phone?

Being stuck on the ground can be scary, vulnerable and leave you uncertain as to if anyone can help.

Ideally, you're prepared for this circumstance and you know how to get yourself back up or you can reach the phone, you can take a deep breath and get back on your feet again. Not feeling alone, weak or incompetent.

Prepare and practice before you come across this situation 👌

If you're not sure if you can get up, or even how to, shoot me a message and I can point you in the right direction.

Where the heck do you put your hands at when you're standing up and sitting down when using a walker?

In general, it is usually best practice to put your hands on the armrest when standing up and prior to sitting down. This is the safest option to make sure your hands are used as a guide and ensuring the surface you were sitting on doesn't move and you are in control the whole time.

Now I know it's scary for some people and some people do better with one arm on an armrest and one on the walker but in general, it's best practiced to use both arms at the same time. This prevents any twisting or a shift of balance to one side. Also, walkers are never as stable as the surface you're sitting on.

Have you tried this technique or what works for you typically?
