“I can’t get on my knees.”

I hear this ALL the time.

Knee replacements. Arthritis. Knee pain. Or sometimes just fear of putting pressure on the knees.

But here’s the thing…

Just because something hurts or feels uncomfortable doesn’t always mean you can’t do it.

Think about getting into cold water. 🥶

You don’t have to jump straight into the deep end.

You can start with your feet. Then your legs. Then slowly let your body get used to it.

We can do the same thing with your knees.

Start with a little pressure. Use a soft surface. Hold onto something. Slowly add more weight as your body gets more comfortable.

These drills can help you build the confidence and ability to use your knees if you ever need to get up from the floor.

Yes, there ARE ways to get up without using your knees. But those methods usually require a lot more upper body strength—which can make getting up even harder.

The goal isn’t to force your knees to hurt.

The goal is to slowly teach your body: “I can do this.”

Start small. Build confidence. Get stronger.

Because if you ever end up on the floor, having MORE ways to get back up is a pretty powerful thing.

Always talk with your physician or healthcare provider before starting a new exercise program, especially if you have significant pain, a recent surgery, or other medical concerns.

What hand should you hold your cane in?

like most things, there isn't a black-and-white answer to this question but at least I can give you some idea.

Always consult with your healthcare provider to determine what hand it's best for you to hold the cane in, these are just general recommendations based off what I've seen.

It's a safe bet to go with your dominant hand unless you feel like you're walking funky, feel unsteady or not confident. In that case, certainly consult with your physical therapist or rehab professional 👌

It's one problem to fall, but it's another if you can't get up.

Yes fall prevention, balance training and strength training are important but you can't forget about the time when you end up on the ground and you have no idea what to do.

If you are not sure if you can get up from the ground or you know you can't get up from the ground, send me a message with the word "FALL"... I'll see if I can point you in the right direction 😊

Maintaining leg strength is extremely important as we age. We use our legs every single day to get up from the toilet, out of our recliner, dining room chairs, couches, vehicles, etc.

and one thing we cannot predict… am I going to be able to hold onto something to help me get up?

Doctors offices are known for having chairs without armrests in the lobby, and if you can't get up from a chair without your hands… That could be quite embarrassing.

Here are just a few tips on how to keep your legs strong and safety considerations when doing so.

If you want to optimize your posture when using a walker, you need to first make sure it's the right height for you!

At what age do you classify someone as being OLD?

I know we've all said it before but I think it's all subjective...what do you think?

Yes it's important to train for everyday life and if you know me, that is really important, but it's also important to train for the things life doesn't warn you about.

What happens if an emergency comes up? Would you be ready?!?

This is one of the coolest mobility scooters I've seen!
It's Lightweight, Foldable in 3 seconds and easy to drive.

As a physical therapist, I look for mobility products that support independence without adding unnecessary strain.

KERDOM The Fold-Flat weighs approximately 38 lbs and folds in about 3 seconds. Its folding design helps reduce unnecessary bending, while its compact folded size makes it easier to store at home or place in a car trunk.

For shopping, travel, and family outings, this portable mobility scooter for seniors offers a practical balance of comfort, portability, and everyday convenience.

Less chaos. Less handling effort. More freedom for everyday life.

Comment SCOOTER for the link 😊
