Candle stick drawing!
Hi, I’m Ben the Titan, a tattoo artist in the DC/DMV area.
If you’ve been seeing a lot of videos of me drawing on paper lately, there’s a reason for it.
I’m a tattoo artist, but before anything else, I want to be a better artist.
I draw on paper because there’s no undo button. No perfect-circle tool. No moving a line after I’ve already put it down. If I mess something up, I have to figure out how to fix it, learn from it, and do better on the next one.
I don’t want to spend my career just copying references or tracing somebody else’s tattoo. References are useful—we all use them—but I want to actually understand how to draw. I want to be able to take an idea someone gives me and turn it into something that feels like my work.
So I draw. A lot.
Some drawings work. Some absolutely don’t 😂 But every page teaches me something about linework, composition, shape, shading, and what will actually translate well into a tattoo.
My style leans heavily toward American Traditional and Neo Traditional tattooing, so you’ll see me practicing a lot of bold lines, heavy black, readable shapes, tattoo flash, and designs that are actually meant to work on skin.
These videos are basically you watching me practice and improve in real time.
I’m not trying to become a human copy machine.
I’m trying to become a better artist and a better tattooer.
